Does anyone besides Rex and I enjoy these bands? The Crystals, The Ronettes... Love em! What are you favorites and songs? Bubble Gum Girl groups from the ear 60s is all I am thinking of. No Motown... not now.

Mine would be He's a Rebel and He's Sure The Boy I Love -Crystals

Long Live Our Love -The Shangri-Las

Special thanks to Paul (Hack) for that one!

What do you dig?

you know i'm gonna chime in on a music thread....

i love girl groups, old and new. since you asked specifically about the older stuff, here's what i dig...

60's:
shangri-las - out in the streets (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xRCWnfMAmqE)
ronettes - "best part of breakin' up" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10X_M4C5o60)
pleasure seekers - check out their classic "what a way to die" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DK3JtWgtats) (pleasure seekers was suzi quatro's first band and this song was later covered by garage-punk legends the mummies

and though it's probably too new....
70s:
who doesn't love the pretenders (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtMm0lfUMCY), joan jett and the runaways, x-ray spex, etc. etc. etc.

newer stuff that rules:
columbus ohio's tough and lovely tear it up pretty good, here's some footage of them live at the comet (cincy) in '05 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1d5nqLm4GmQ)...they toe the line between garage and soul stuff, always a fun show and chicks always dig this band, great band for a date. also a fun band to open for - done that a handful of times.

the detroit cobras are also pretty fun and maybe you can do the "cha-cha twist" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82RW3uWXaaI) with them. opened for them, too, but it wasn't as fun.

the bangs' 2001 (?) album sweet revenge is just like listening to the funnest thing you've ever heard in your life, here's the title track (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6YFUoA7Q5Wc). later on the album they cover cheap trick's "southern girls" to complete the fun-ness.

before the donnas turned into a crappy "rock" band, they used to be way influenced by the pop sounds of the '60s, here's "get rid of that girl" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0yleULPsq4) from their s/t album...

sahara hotnights aren't my favorite band by a long shot, but here's one song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XfQroGTvV0) i really liked of theirs.

i've said enough.

ehhhhh I should have been more descriptive. I was referring to 60s bubble gum girl groups, but hey why not talk about all of them.

I like Joan Jett and The Blackhearts, but they were really lame when I saw them a few years back. Clearly Joan Jett really didn't give a damn about her bad reputation that night... I almost walked out before the first chorus of the first song, she looked really bored.

It would have been nice to be around when all of this was new. :(
