It may not look like anything special but, A friend and I picked up a solid and very mint 185K mile 1993 Lincoln Mark 8.
The air suspension is all the way down since the engine isn't running at the moment. Thats why it looks like a lowrider from hell.

Now you may be asking why the hell did I buy a Mark 8 with 185K miles and had it towed all the way in from Connecticut??

Well It has to do with this

1999 Cobra conversion with only 7K miles on the engine!
The engine conversion was a nice touch but not as great as the 5spd Conversion that was also done to it!!
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d12/blackened300a/DSCN0034.jpg

Now the bad. During the clutch pedal installation a wire was crimped and caused a short that popped the main fuse, this also prevented the engine from cranking. The previous owner after many hours located and fixed the crimped wire which let the engine crank but won't fire. He has fuel but no spark.
He changed just about everything except the computer, then he ran out of time with school and his personal life that he let the car go. My friend and I decided to complete the project and either keep it as a toy or turn it over for a profit.
We also found a computer for this car for only $50 shipped! So its a work in progress but it should be worth it in the end.

We are also relocating the shifter and making the stock console work.
The previous owner also stocked the entire car up with a ton of parts including a extra set of rims and tires. We havent gone through everything due to it being 25 degrees out today but we should have everything we need to return it to a very drivable 5 speed Mark 8 with a built engine.:D

Looks like a fun project Paul, if it doesn't work out you could always put the engine and 5 spd in your CV :D

I was actually thinking about this, except the body of my crown vic is a bit rough so it wouldnt be worth putting this drivetrain in.

Yeah I heard this too. Steel crank with crappy rods and pistons. :(

It will stay N/A so Im not too worried about blowing it up.

Sounds like a hell of a project. Body looks clean as hell. The price was right considering the work.

Let me know what parts you have left over. My friend may need something for his 8.

The good thing is that parts are cheap. Not to mention that the hard labor of the conversion is all complete. Its just the basic stuff that are time consuming like putting the dash together along with piecing out everything to make sure it all works.

The price I paid for the car with this conversion already done made this a no brainer to put this project together. The first order of business is to get the air ride working so we can put the car on the lift and start seeing what the car need to get it running.

Ill post up pics and progress as this goes on.

If the suspension doesnt go up, just do a spring conversion. Its not worth getting into if its not going to pump up. Parts are VERY VERY EXPENSIVE...Mark 7 suspensions are much cheaper in parts.

The suspension works we just have to figure out how to override the system since the car doesnt run.

If its anything like the marauder setup, the controls for it would be behind the glove box.

Ask Drock about this, he's as much of a mark 8 expert as he is a panther expert (he has a 93 LSC also)

it doesnt need to run in order to pump up. Turn the key to the ON position.

If no action, while the compressor SHOULD BE pumping up, hook your hose up to the compressor. It will automatically distrubute while you're pumping through the compressor.

if still nothing happens (you dont hear the compressor click on to push air) you have a fried relay. Or, if it pumps air in, just a fully blown bag

We turned the key on and waited with zero results. We are going to locate the compressor and put direct power to it or run a air line. We havent gotten into the car yet since its out in the yard and its DAMN cold!

Yes the car is extremely clean and will be a fun fun ride. Yes the 99 cobra engine has a steel crank and from what I understand the 99 also had a teksid block...Pistons and rods are typical modular junk.

The 5 speed is equiped with a short throw shifter and a spec III clutch and flywheel.

The one mod we absolutely want to do is the shifter box extension for the t45 to put the shifter in the stock console location. Other then that well see what we come up with. It may not be an 03 cobra motor but with a 5 speed it should sure get up and go. Im sure Paul will kepp yall tuned...When we get some time we will attack it

Bad ass. Make sure the intake has blue and green dots on it (I think) to make sure its one of the "Fix" intakes on the 99' cars. I wish I knew more details but thats all I know. The guys over on svtperformance may be able to help you figure out if the engine had part of the "Fix" If not you'll want to track down an 01 cobra intake. Yes, 99's have Teksid's. It'll take whatever you can throw at it other than the rods/pistons.

That project looks fun as hell!!

Seems liek this saturday we are going to have soem time to tinker with it. New computer isnt in yet...But maybe...:O)

Yeah, nothing like waiting almost a year to the day to start working on something but.... We got it running!!! Turns out the original owner who did the 5spd conversion managed to crimp a bunch of wires behind the clutch pedal and that's what caused the dead short and preventing the car from firing up. I moved the car to my shop and for the last week we started going through the car. We replaced the computer and started checking out the wiring. Once we removed the clutch pedal assembly and turned the key, everything started working, even the air compressor kicked on trying to raise the suspension but that didn't seem to work. More work is involved but we have a running car which is 100% improvement!

I like the look of the car "low-rider" style. I am not a real big fan of low riders but your MK8 looks good that way.
I drove a MK 5 or 6 once (like Cannon drove on that TV show) I remember it was quite cushy and big.

Thanks. The whistle is the combination of a idler pulley and a vacuum leak. That will be all sorted out.

The theme of this car is to get it running for the cheapest way possible. We bought the car as a project to repair and then turn over for a profit. As it sits, its worth more then what we paid, the goal is make it a 100% street car for the least amount of out of pocket expense.
