Anyone know where to get a Ford/Mercury Sirius Satellite factory radio that will exactly replace the MM Cassette/CD-Changer Radio?

I'd be interested in that myself. Certainly would look better than my XM running through a cassette adapter. At least I actually found a use for the cassette player and it doesn't sound half bad either.

I believe that is a dealer installed option.

It hasn't been the same since the the two compainies joined forces. :soap:

I recently stopped by my local Lincoln Mercury dealer to ask this question. They said that the OEM radio from a <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comhttp://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/ /><st1:place w:st=lincoln</st1:place> would fit. Of course it would cost an arm and a leg.

Also found this on ebay Link (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280258516677&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&viewitem=)

You should get this:
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-JkHTho223lA/p_607FMDA25/SIRIUS-FM-Direct-Adapter.html
it's what I use and it sounds much better than a cassette adapter, not to mention much neater.

I did an OEM Sat radio in my Lightning - It was expensive BUT I was tired of having windows broken etc to steal the $30 XM roady - THe OEM radio was from an Econoline van

If you cant get help from the dealer look up the local radio repair shop that the dealers farm stuff out to - they have take out radios and can help with this kind of question

I did it because it looked stock

Which worked great till they took the whole truck

The factory deck in the eBay listing above and sat-ready decks from other Fords & Mercs will work (if the plugs are the same), but they all require a tuner from Ford at about $350.

Plugs in between the factory radio & harness, gives you RCA input to the stock radio.

Not cheap. We looked at retrofitting my wife's Escape with this, and the price was well over $300.

There are plenty of radios on ebay that will work. Just look up Ford Satalite radio and check it out. There are Sirius tuners for as low as $70 and the radio for $170. All you would need to do is get the harness from the radio to the tuner from a salvage yard or dealer, and an antenna. From the pics I am seeing, you could use an aftermarket antenna.

The Omicron Electronics place told me that the area behind the dash has a slope to it, and that the regular Ford satellite radio like the one that came in my daughter's Expedition won't fit in the space. That's why I'd sure like to have the part number off Shodude's Escape unit that he installed in his MM. There are lots of aftermarket "in-dash" units on the market, but, IMHO they all look like doodoo.

Your electronics store is clueless. I have a Audiophile unit in my LX Sport, I looked at the sat radio plug in, $300 was a little steep for what it was.... to me. FWIW, I scored mine, new, for $130, off ebay. You gotta look for mispelled words and ads placed in obviously the wrong catagory.

The unit that was in the Sport, has a SAT button, but it is a tape/CD unit, if somebody wants it..... I could be talked out of it.

That really looks great!

What other hardware is needed to be able to listen to Sirius?

Will our steering wheel buttons interface with thsi?

Do you have to go with the additional Ford parts or is their
some aftermarket adaptor that will work with this but still
display the song info on the radio?

Is this a "bolt in" or are modifications needed to make it fit
and hook up.

Questions, questions, questions.................

ok guys.. the part number is 6L8T-18C815-FD. you will need the receiver, harness, and antenna for sirius to work but all that can be found on ebay for 70-100 bucks. There is also and indash nav unit but i've only seen it in ebay car ads and in press photo's. have never seen one on ebay.

Sorry to dredge up a blast from the past but no one actually answered what exactly was needed to make this happen. I'm talking part numbers or places to buy the entire kit, etc.

I just bought the 6L8T-18C815-FD Mercury Mariner head unit and want to add Sirius to it.

I found this: http://store.xmfanstore.com/complete-sirius-install-kit-for-ford-lincoln-mercury.html but the guy who ansewered the phone sais it will only work on the 2008-2009 radios. No clue if this is true.

I also called the Ford stealership. After arguing with the guy for nearly 15 min about how that radio WILL NOT work with the Marauder:mad2:, I finally got him to give me a price for the Ford kit assuming it was going in a Mariner. $349. Yeah like that's going to happen.

So if anyone has installed Sirius with their stock('ish) head unit, how did you do it? What was the part number? Ebay is my friend.

I know...all these audio questions. Sorry.

My 2004 MM was sold to a chap in Tennessee, and he sold it to a fellow from New York.......but I assure you I had XM satellite radio in it. I bought a Ford Visteon P/N 4042818 satellite-ready radio from either an '05 or '06 Escape. I then bought the XM tuner and the adapter off the internet. The reason everyone says it won't work is because the wires in the adapter aren't run to the correct terminals in the nylon connector. My radio shop (the guy who does the radio work for most the Ford Dealers in the North Dallas area) had to call the service department at the manufacturer of the adapter and re-wire the connector while he had them on the phone. Voila...it worked for 2 years for me and was still working when I sold the car.

We were going to put the Sirius upgrade in my wife's '06 Escape, but got a price quote of around $400 from Ford for a Visteon unit, may have been the same p/n, can't recall for sure.

We just ended up putting Sportster 4's in both our vehicles, cheaper and less hassle.

I bought all the stuff on ebay. As best I can remember, the radio was a couple hundred, the tuner was about a C-note, and the adapter was about fifty bucks. Add the installation cost, and it was a tad over $400. I sold the OEM radio to a mercurymarauder.net member for about a hundred bucks, so it was a $300plus installation.....in addition to about 2 months of figuring out how to make it work.....but it was worth it to me.

Yeah, with the OEM appearance, it must have looked sweet. No doubt much cleaner than an add-on tuner.

Have any part numbers? Even the year of the vehicle, the tuner, adapter, etc is supposed to fit or a link to the old ebay auction? Basically how did you find the parts you needed? I can't find anything without knowing what to look for since things are year specific and I don't want to go buying everything just to find out it needs a ton of work to work. I don't mind wiring it myself. I'm very handy, but I need the stuff first.

Don't mean to dredge up an old thread, but I finally got the 6 disk audiophile radio installed (which rocks BTW) as well as the factory Sirius receiver and some new speakers which sound much better than stock. Amazingly the receiver I got was already activated. Both the installer and I were thrilled that we were able to test it out right away and I haven't spent a dime on the service (yet).

HOWEVER, the reception is horrific. I mean REALLY bad. It cuts out SO often it's almost impossible to listen to while driving. I mean even on a clear highway, clear line of sight, and a clear night sky, it just won't buffer anything. It cuts out randomly and takes a while to change stations. Very often says 'No signal' even though I get sound. I've been reading that it is a kinda common thing for the factory Ford Sirius units, or maybe I just got a defective one. I don't know. It was professionally installed by a guy that has done a lot of work for me and installed these radios before so it wasn't a botched install. The antenna was placed on the trunk lid lip as opposed to messing up the rear window molding to put it on the roof but I don't think that would be a huge reception issue. I've had Sirius in all my cars ("real" Sirius units) and I have never had an issue and the reception is amazing even through trees and such. I just think the Ford unit is old, junky, and doesn't have a buffer. I could be wrong though. Maybe it's the generic antenna that came with the kit (it does not say Sirius on it but maybe it is and just not openly branded as such) and the so called higher gain antenna like the 'real' sirius one will work better?

I kinda don't have the heart to mess up the sexy lines of the dash with a Sirius unit, but the Starmate 8 which is a relatively new head unit, is black and has a multi colored display so I can match the interior colors so it won't clash at night. Not sure where to put it if I go get it. Might just have to buy it and see what looks good, but I can't live with this crappy reception. I also like the fuctions of the real sirius units, like the playback/rewind and way better display of the songs, etc, but again, those sexy dash lines....

Anyone else had this issue with the factory Sirius radio? Or anyone have suggestions as to what to do with an aftermarket unit? Any install pics would be appreciated.

Rob

What antenna do you use? Where is it placed - roof or trunk?

Let me add I bought 3 different kinds of antenna off Amazon and will do testing to see if that is indeed my problem.

My colleague had Sirius in his car and his house for years. When they jacked the prices and cut down the number of stations for the third time, he told them to go away. They wouldn't make him a deal for anything so he told them to stick it. They didn't actually shut him off for over 8 months, then had the balls to call him up and ask if he wanted to become a subscriber again...for even MORE money. He told them to bugger off.

I work for a major telecom provider and we have policies in place that if a customer wants to disconnect we always try to offer them an enticement to stay. Sirius told my buddy they wouldn't offer him anything. The FCC never should have let them buy XM as they're now the only game in town and their arrogance shows.
