I'm debating on which differential I should purchase. I know the truetrac is maintenance free no clutches just gears. I'm hearing it's not as great on the track. Now the eaton posi has carbon fiber clutches and I hear it's smooth and great on the track. Ok chime in guys.

Marauder TJA has it in his car too and does great at the track with no problems ( A 10 second car ) . I also have it in my Marauder and never had a problem.

My brother has the Eaton in his modded CV and it is a nice Posi!....but I would have to vote for the TrueTrac 'torque sensing' Posi.
I believe that merc and Sherman also run the Detroit TrueTrac and with all of the drag racing that they do, if they can't break it...nobody can!

Im think i am going to go with Eaton i hear is excellent on the track and daily driving and detroit locker isnt that good for street meant for just straight aways. But im waiting on answers on this thread to hear "the truth" :D

Detroit 'Locker' is a different unit than the Detroit 'TrueTrac'.
Yes, The Locker is loud ( it ratchets) and not a good street differential...it is best at the drag strip.
When the Detroit Locker engages it is basically a 'spool'....BOTH axles are literally locked together with NO bias function.
The Detroit TrueTrac is a 'torque sensing' posi that is great for the street and road course and works well at the drag strip too.
Some users have broken the screw type posi gears when drag racing TrueTracs in HIGH HP cars with drag slicks.

Thats is the proof thou. I probably go with the truetrac but I wanted to see what everybody else thoughts were and real life test revealed.

I wouldn't be afraid of a Detroit locker on the street. I run a locker in my truck and it handles very well on the steet. Detroit makes what they call a "soft" locker. When it engages it doesn't snap and jerk like they used to. Also, a locker is designed to disengage while turning. But as soon as you apply power it will automaticly engage. The locker or trutrac will probably never break or wear out, but the added stress to other components may cause them to fail if not upgraded. Good luck and happy hunting!

Now what about Eaton's ECTED?

I am very happy with the Truetrac. It is incredibly quiet and lock-up is instantaneous when the loud pedal is mashed.

Now what about Eaton's ECTED?That is a great idea. Limited slip when turn off, locker when engaged.

Truetrac One is maintenance free and has helical gears. Eaton Posi has clutches that can break and the whole unit can be rebuilt.
Get the Truetrac:2thumbs: & be done with it.

If you are interested, I have an Auburn ECTED out of ProRauder for sale. Electric Locking posi. Flick of a switch it goes from a posi to a SPOOL.
I upgraded to a 9" with a spool so I have the entire axle assembly out and available.
It is for 31 spline axles too.

I'm a big fan of a track-lok with an extra clutchpack. The 03/04 packs too.
Never let me down at the strip, I always have a nice pair of 11's down the track.

So it sounds like the True Trac is like GM's Zexel Torsen geared limited slip that they used in the 4th gen F bodies?

Yes, the same type differential as the Torsen.
