I agree. Have you ever heard "Echo Taps" done with two buglers where one echoes the notes of the first? Absolutely the best.

As a young Second Lieutenant in 1972-1973, I had the opportunity to be the detail commander for more funerals than I care to count. At that time, the detail consisted of the casket bearers, a 7-man rifle detail for the 3-round volley, the bugler (and appropriate backups). I served in funerals for Veterans of WWI, WWII, Korea and Vietnam. The Vietnam funerals were the toughest emotionally since so many of these people were young soldiers and they had young wives and friends or their parents were there. On top of that Vietnam was not a very supported war. Those were very, very difficult. My sadest funeral was for an older veteran out in the Shenandoah Valley. After that one, I came back and asked my boss to find a replacement.

The best video version of "Taps" that I know of is from the movie "From Here to Eternity" when Montgomery Clift blows the bugle the final time for his friend Magio (Frank Sinatra). Unfortunately, I couldn't find the video clip.

sd8683 you really got me liking that Mother song.


Yeah I love that song, the story behind the song is very sad and true, John Lennon was abandoned by both of his parents at a young age and was raised by his aunt, in his late teens he began to have a relationship with his mom again and they were getting along great, soon after they reconciled their relationship he witnessed her get struck and killed by a bus, very sad.
