Hi,
i'm thinking of getting a Mercury Monterey (Mercury version of Ford Freestar) Mini Van to replace the 1993 Pontiac Trans Port that we now have.
I need at least 6 seats.
Don't really want to buy a Honda Oddessy (after all, I'm an American).
Wondering if anyone here has owned or had any experiance with the vehicle that they could share before I take the plunge.
Thinking of getting a 2005 to 2007 model year as that all that can be squeezed into the budget at this time.
The floor is open.;)
Thanks.

We're in the market for a minivan as well but are leaning towards the Mazda5.

if you need more than 5 seats for your family then i think a freestar/monterey would be a great choice but if not, the escape is an excellent vehicle for a family of 5 or less. excellent on gas as well.

Anything is better than the space ship styled Trans Sport :puke:

An old teacher of mine has the Freestar and loves it.

i worked at a ford-mercury dealer back in '04 when the monterey was still NEW. i was rather unimpressed by its interior appointments and lack of power.

on the other hand, i drove a pontiac trans-sport, and other than the interior being very generic, i loved the performance!

My wife has a 2005 Freestar. We love it ! It has been problem free, with 40,000 + miles on it. We like the room it offers. I took out the middle seats, and the rear one folds into the floor. We also like it for it's low step in height for our dogs. We have the SEL model with the power side doors and power tailgate door. My wife loves the backup sensors too. Ours has the larger 4.2 V-6. Performance is adequate, and mileage is decent. It is comfortable on long trips. My wife swears the Advance Trac has saved her life when some idiot blew through a Stop sign and nearly T-Boned her. She had to swerve violently to avoid him. She was suprised that she didnt' loose control of the car. She avoided an accident, and was badly shook up, but impressed with the car's handling abilty.

I would have to say go with the Freestar, I know many people with them and have heard very few problems!

I've driven the freestyle and am unimpressed. HORRIBLE resale value too.

The only minivan I've liked so far is the Honda Odyssey. Weird, seeing as I hate Hondas...

Kia Sedonas are a lot of van for the money. Might check out one of those too. But they also have terrible resale. Makes them good used buys though.

Does Ford even make a minivan now? I know GM doesn't.....

I second the towncar

my parts guy loves his freestar, I would suspect the mercury version wouldn't be worse.
