Do we all remember when soap powder manufacturers, gave you wash cloths, hand towels, etc., grocery stores gave away flatware, and, and pieces of dinnerware, and gas stations gave away drink glasses, etc. Thats what I see in the future, they are going to pay you for your business.

I think fuel oil prices are a manipulation, and that a crisis can be manufactured, that will be used the fluctuate the price of anything. if we all went out tomorrow and bought blue hair dye(you know, the stuff old ladies use), and continued for several weeks that the price would rise on it, and all associated products. (hair nets, rain hats, curlers, Etc.) I started this post to see if anyone remembered the Trend soap powder, with the wash cloths, there were also some regional give aways that are also interesting.

Yep I do remember those give aways. You are right about the manipulation of oil prices. Just take a look at whats going on in Gaza. Iran is providing the rockets to Hamas to fire into Israel. Israel has finally had enough and hits back. Oil prices go up due the conflict and the Iranians get larger profits stirring the pot for a pittance... :mad2:

It uses WAY more fuel and energy to plant, raise, harvest, transport & distill the corn, then re-ship and blend with gas, then re-ship again, than it produces as a gasoline blend.

Plus we get the added benefit of higher food prices!!

Number one, auto's do not use most of the Oil in the world. Industry does and industry is in the cellar.
Number two, watch your state (and fed) legislature, as they are going to put MORE tax on a gallon of fuel (since you are used to paying more..) which by the way will not go away when the price does rise.
I also heard that some states (Oregon for one) is considering taxing the MILES you drive. They want this because with more fuel efficient cars, the amount of fuel purchased is down.

Thats sick, 87 is still $1.81 here and 93 is still over $2. I'd be tempted to take my DTR out of storage if we had your gas prices.

I've seen 87 for $1.79 at brand name stations, but 93 still over $2

As a kid, my Dad used to fill up at a "Sav On" gas station enroute to my Grandparents summer house on the Chesapeake Bay. Gas was about $0.249 per gallon at the time and the attendant would give all the kids bubble gum (a handful if they wanted), wash the windows and check the oil, too. "Gimme $2.00 Worth" was common instead of a Fill-Up. ;)

To answer the original question, yes i remember back around '88 the mobil i played mechanic at gave away pretty decent dinner glasses for every few gallons of gas you bought. And how many glasses, coasters, and general crap that Coke used to shell out!

I still get my windows washed...but only if I fill up at my local Exxon/Mobil where the guys know me. The ownership, personnel and gas company seem to change pretty frequently at a lot of stations so you don't have a chance to develope a relationship. And nobody goes out of their way to woo your business. Maybe it's because the majority of motorists shop price only, and aren't very loyal themselves? :dunno:

Went up from 1.48, to 1.69, in one day, then went to 1.75, then today went to 1.95. Should have just shut my mouth!!!!!!!! These prices are for 87, the 93 is .20 more.

There on the rise here, as I knew they would be, and stand by for round two of the largest home foreclosure's in the USA for 2009 and 2010, Florida tops the list at over a 195,000 homes in foreclosure as of last week.
