Our beloved panther is number 9 according to Autoblog's 10 cars that don't deserve their engines :( :

You can't blame them, the MM 1/4 mile and 0-60 times are barely faster, stock, than a lot of cars with 100 less horsepower. The factory did not exactly make the car feel like it has over 300 hp right off the showroom floor.

I'm still glad Ford put the DOHC engine in the car, better than never at all.

Yeah, stock, they're nothing to brag about, but with a few mods you can wake them up. Maybe that's what Ford had in mind all along.

It doesn't help the factory to sell a slow car. So I doubt they had anything in mind other than cost and feasibility for production

Thats very possible considering how much just a tune wakes these cars up.

Wow! I had NO idea that my car sucks so bad! I feel really stupid now.

Anyone want to haul mine away? This over weight, under-powered, antique, and sluggish car is an embarrassment to my good name.
