Save your money, the car sucked in 04 and still does now..

They were 110K new US$ 160K New CDN$'s, just 5 years ago. Price is so low because who wants to own a 160K VW when you can own a 160K Audi or Bentley instead.

0-60 in 6.3 second.
tops out over 200mph if you pull the governor.

I would hope that a W12 could accelerate quicker than that!
(My bone stock 85 GT could do better than that and it cost me $11,400 brand new.)

BTW: Passat's quality suck too. A co-worker had so many problems* with his Passat that he dumped it for a used Ford Explorer.

*one of the many problems included having his heated seats go 'haywire' and almost starting the Passat on fire!

Check out this clip (1:40) form Top Gear about cars that loses the most in value, VW Phaeton loses £85 a day in value , that's about $120!

Reminds me of the old 90's Audi V8 , they can now be bought for $2000..

Nice concept but very bad quality. I bought one of those 553 ft-lb V-10 TDIs. In the first two years it spent a total of 6 months in the shop. It had the engine/trans out twice (and needed it again when I got rid of it). It had 8 computers replaced, two wiring harnesses replaced, and man, many more. The longest single stay in the shop was 6 weeks.
It was a blast to drive, smooth, quiet, comfortable, good mileage, quick, but it was always broke. More than once, the shop called to say it was ready/fixed only to have it break down from the parking place to the driveway where I was to pick it up.
If the Pheaton is anything like the Touareg, stay away!! I think a lot of the same computers/electrical components were used in both vehicles.
I learned to drive in a 1960 VW Bug, and always had a soft spot for VWs. The Touareg cured me of that permanantly.

The Phaeton is not like any other VW.

Maybe, but it still uses a lot of the same components as the Touareg. The V-10TDI was even developed for both vehicles.

The fanciest factory in the world won't help if you use poor quality components. Even if the quality of the Phaeton was better, the VW dealerships (at least in the US) don't know how to treat high end vehicles like this or their owners. The vehicles are too complex for the dealers service departments and all they end up doing is changing parts until the symptoms (temporarily) goes away. I don't think there was more than a two week period without some problem with my Touareg in the entire time that I owned it. I just gave up taking it in every time the computers started throwing errors. Otherwise, it would have been in the shop almost all of the time that I owned it.

This is just my opinion, but developing this opinion cost me a small fortune. Consider it fair warning.

All Phaeton parts are made in Germany were they know what they are doing. North American VW parts are made in Mexico, or atleast they were. The Phaeton really is a different beast from any other VW. Also the Phaeton has special mechanics trained in fixing them, supposedly there should be one at every dealership, in reality you have to go to the Phaeton supported dealerships. Although they do give you better than average service. It is like being a roman citizen in rome instead of being a greek.

If you are really considering buying one of them, you really need to do more research. Touaregs also had specially trained mechanics (usually the same guys that got the Pheaton training got the Touareg training due to the common systems). In the US, the special training for Touareg (and Phaeton) mechanics was dropped a few years ago. And Touaregs were assembled in Europe of mostly German components. I am sure that you will also find that Phaetons are not 100% German components. They have only slightly more German content than Touaregs.

Stop.

Because it is made in Germany, does not mean it is perfect. You dont honestly think that there is not a guy picking his butt as a bad Pheaton wiring harness passed him, or all of them passed him? People are lazy and if it doesnt affect them.... THEY DONT CARE.

Only the old VW beetle was made in Mexico, not all VW cars.

Ok I'm hijacking this thread for a second to opine. I note that some members, whom I like and respect, have taken a strong dislike to our member from the Great White North. Maybe it's just me, but I can't recall Aren pointedly flaming anyone (even when baited and provoked), using off color language, or being overly negative/juvenile. I can't say the same for some others. It disturbs me to see any member picked on for no apparent reason. ( Other than prolific and out of the ordinary threads/topics.) There is a pervasive mean-spirited attitude at work here and it's beneath most of you. JMHO I'm off my soapbox now.:)

Hi, I know that you don't know me but I will try to provide some insight as to why the person above mentioned is recieving a less than warm reception. This forum started in 2002 to coincide with the debut in June of 2002 of the Mercury Marauder. There are many of us here that date back to the beginning when we purchased the MM. brand new, we went thru a lot together in those 6 years, we met, broke bread, drank together, raced together; we know each other by sight and on a first name basis.

We shared our triumphs and mourned our losses, our common denominator is the car we love, which to many of us is more than "just a car", so sometimes when someone demonstrates on more than one ocassion a flippant attitude toward "our car" we can get a little defensive and let that person that obviously does not share our passion know how we feel.

This I realize seems mean spirited to you and I do respect your opinion, try to imagine how you would feel if on more than one ocassion someone was to for example say unpleasant things about your adorable co-pilot and perhaps this may help you to understand how the other side feels.

Respectfully, Javier.:)

Not what Javier was saying.

He said that YOU have made numerous posts about not liking your Marauder, or how you are in favor of many other vehicles instead of the Marauder.

Not only that, but you have offended soem members due to personal matters. It is your inablity to see the forum as an actual communtiy of friends and in some cases family, that has you on people bad side. You make remarks, no matter how simple they are, that offend people or make them lose respect for you.

You are very sligh with how and where you post, and with what you say. I know for a fact that you are very intelligent but I do not undersand why you seem to antagonize people on the forum and say unneccesary comments.

You may have erred in your research. Mine "let go".

Joe Walsh
01-05-2009, 08:06 AM
turns out if you ask if a trilogy can be made to use air intercooling or just without an intercooler, people have a conniption fit. (yes i use big words or classical words)

the 'conniption' was because; if you had done any research on the trilogy/eaton supercharger,
you would have known how it mounts/functions and that air-to-air intercooling is a ridiculous question.
I won't even address the idea of deleting an integral intercooler from a complete, tested supercharger system.

then there is that fact the trilogy seems to be a great company but unless you're on the other marauder site, they won't talk to you.

they probably are trying to save their reputation by not selling you a kit.

Please buy a Vortec and slap it onto a VW Phaeton.
