Blackmobile

I Have to finally let the cat out of the bag and report that Blackmobile has gone to Marauder heaven. Just before the holidays, while coming from a friend’s house, control was lost and it spun out, off the road and into a tree. I find it very hard to write this but because of all the help I've had from members here I feel it's best to step up and clear the air rather than just hiding in the background. I've heard it stated, it is just a car, but to me if felt more like loosing a very close friend, and the loss has left a seriously big hole in my heart. The good news is the Marauder let me walk away with virtually no injuries, but at the cost of almost every body panel being twisted.

Crazy thing is, After the impact I tried to start it back up, but it wouldn't. Then I jumped out popped the trunk and reset the fuel modual, and then started it, but it wouldn't move. Then I got back out and went to the passenger side and said......D#$*....it's toast.

No worries!!! You have your health. I'm sure your family is greatful.

Marauder values have tanked lately so you should be able to get a replacement pretty cheap. Infact you may find something better. :) Selling my first MM was really hard because as much as I hated the paint it was one car I truely loved. But the new one I got was better and love it more.

You should find it at steal the wheels if they are in good shape. LOL

I had a similar incident (acccident) recently and know how you feel. I am glad you were relatively unscathed. These are very safe cars and I hope you consider that when evaluating a replacement. Yeah, melodramatic, but you get the idea.
PS
I can't get to Florida to pick up my car till the end of March now, so there may be a Black MM at DRs shop that you can go drive now and then just to remind yourself what you are missing. Maybe coax you back into the saddle. Oh, can you drive a stick? :)

Thanks for the Condolences, and the kind words, but it appears I'm SOL about buying the car back from the insurance co. because it had a lienholder and they payed them off already. If I had owned the car out right then I would have had the ability to buy it back right away. So now it must go to auction and to buy it there. But I can't because it won't be a public auction, you must be a dealer. So I'm looking into contacting a dealer known to a friend here, to be able to buy it at the auction for me. This will take about 3 weeks or so as what I've been told.

holidays, while coming from a friend’s house, control was lost and it spun out, off the road and into a tree.

This scenario has played out many times as reported by Marauder owners.

I know of at least two parties here in my small town that have said they suddenly lost control, spun out and crashed into trees, embankments or other immovable objects and totaled the car.

I wondering what is it that causes this phenomena? One party was an LEO with plenty of high speed driving experience. We don't have snow, just rain.

Thus far my driving experience has been conservative and the car hasn't exhibited any tendencies to get "loose", always felt rock solid even in the rain.

My mother told me a story years ago about how a tree jumped out in front of her and then dragged the car all the way back to the ditch........When I explained my incident to her, I told her the tree is still out there doing the same think. LOL

Caught a curb with both passenger wheels going sideways, and was stopped by a tree. The curb took out the wheels and momentum carried me into the tree. The end result shifted the body from the frame.

My condolences on your loss.
It doesn't even take the SC to get the rear end out. I have 4.10s w/a tune and I almost did it a few time.
Good luck with whatever you plan on doing in the future, Marauder or not I'm sure you will have another beast soon enough.

I know what you're looking for but it isn't all that complicated. Made a right turn from a light and the rear tires broke loose to the left and grabbed, then broke loose to the right and never grabbed. If you need more of a visual, let me drive yours and I'll show you.

You don't know what I'm looking for because I'm not looking for anything. But you don't make a right-turn from a stop light and total a car. How fast were you going through that intersection to cause a simple spin-out to total a car?!?

But if you do happen to get that car back, I could use/buy that piece of plastic that is the cup-holders and goes around the shifter.

:D

Hope you can get it back to build another.

Cheers

I'll try to answer you as intelligently as possible....You don't have a speed going thru an intersection after stopping at a STOP light, that's why there was no one around me to hit, thank goodness. And as for what speed I was going upon impact, well I was too busy to look down, while I was trying to straighten the MM out and bracing for impact. The proper question would be how much were you accelerating, and for that answer I'll say "A BIT". And to use the term "A simple spinnout" take yours into a tree right at the A pillar and see how much is rebuildable, but you also have to take out both passenger tires with a curb to prevent any resistance to momentum. As I said before, let me use yours to show you exactly what transpired if you are that curious.

But I digress.

Ed, don't take this too personal, but there is no way you're ever going to drive my car when it is clear you can't handle one of your own.

This is my personal opinion, just mine, but there is more to this story than you are telling. Either you had a seizure or you were showing off. If it was the former, then I apologize. Otherwise you got what you deserved. Nobody floors it from a stop light making a right turn and expects everything to be "cool". What did you expect was going to happen? Why did you feel the need to accelerate "a BIT" while turning enough to break the rear tires loose?

Nevermind, don't anwer this. Just be happy nobody was injured in your spectacular display of a total loss of judgment and reason. I might recommend a refresher course in drivers ed....

As for your personal opinion, everybody has one, just like a certain part of the human anatomy.....As for your recomendation...I think you know where you can put that...As for more to the story, THAT is what you want to hear...... I'll make something up and email it to you for a good nights reading. Good day Sir.

P.S. if you ever lost your marauder in any fashion, I would still be very sorry for your lose, for I could not wish this on even my enemies.

Well said Ed.

My MM had only an intake and mufflers. The KDW2s were hell to drive on though. Once the broke loose they did not grab, and many times they would slide accelerating. What tires were you running?

I have no doubt it had to do with the tires. Jarod had the same problem even before he s/c his car.

I am very sorry for your loss. Mine was crashed three times and "totalled" twice.

1st time I ran over some black ice while doing 60mph on I-94 and ran into a guardrail at 60mph in reverse after the ice spun me around.

2nd time I really cannot get into detail, but let's just say my dad was driving and the car merged with a telephone pole.

3rd time someone rear ended me at a red light, but that was nothing more than a scratch.

Everything will workout and guess what? It already did! You are fine and making decisions. ;)

I am a senior master tech, who works at Chapman Ford in Philadelphia. I have recently come accross 3 mm's that need motors. All 3 are still sitting in our service lot due to the fact that FOMOCO has a national back order on these RMP motors. Which is not good news. I looked into the reson of why there is a back order and the tech hotline told me that there are so few 4.6L 4v out there that RMP does not get any cores for them. So there is a list of who they go to. The problem with us as a dealer rebuilding them is that you lose the 6yr 100,000 mile warranty you get from RMP, as you do if you buy one from FPG. 3 motors with 3 different problems. 1 has a low end knock, 2nd is locked up, and 3rd the guy drove it overheating so much that he blew the head gaskets and warped the block. All vech are over 100,000 miles and 2 of the have salvaged titles. Most 4.6L 4v and 5.4L 3v engine problems come from the neglect of oil changes, also ford has a TSB stating the fact that aftermarket oil filters are not recomended for these engines and could cause problems due to the very tight clearances, in which it will void your engine warranty. I also have 3 5.4L 3v that I am in the middle of repairing which are all sluged. The moral of my story is change your oil very often and use a motorcraft filter. To save money and not having your mm down in the shop for months. I have some cool pictures of me lifting bodys off the f-series to do motor work and will post them soon.
