MM ftw

i live in northern California, and an MM has been on my list of things to get for some time now. and all of a sudden a black 300A turns up in a used car lot in a town 8 miles away. i almost shat myself when i drove by and saw it, and i almost slammed on my braked when i saw it, and forgot that i could pull over, park, and go look at it. ....so i did

i was so excited that i called my bud and told him about it as i was walking up to inspect it. outside it look immaculate, HOWEVER...

it was a warranty buy back (lemon law) and has 210,xxx miles on it. they are asking $6,995. at first it seemed like too good to be true because my finances are all messed up and i cant afford anything too expensive at the moment. i didn't get the VIN. he said that it starts and drives no prob, and i started it and the engine sounds good. inside is really clean....

Thats alot of miles.

How did the paint look? Thats the first thing to check on any black MM. Next are the rear tires. Also check the rear doors along the bottoms for rust as well as all the wheel arches.

Get a VIN. It'll help alot for the guys here that have access to Oasis.

from what i could tell the paint looked good. it just rained earlier that morning so it was hard to tell 100%, because it had water beaded don it and all...

ill check those things and get the vin. and yes i agree with you 100% on the miles.. i want a MM that will last me at LEAST until i pay the loan back on it.

Check the For Sale postings here, plus look around at a few other places (craigslist, autotrader.com, e-Bay...) you can do better than this.

I agree. I'd run away. Or I'd offer three grand.

However, you can PM the vin number to member name RoyLPita for some dealer OASIS service history.

see if they'll let you take it to your mechanic and have a trustworthy mechanic give you a list and estimate of everything it needs. if it needs a ton of work, i wouldnt even pay 3k or 4k for it
offer them 2500 cash, give them your phone number and tell them to call you when they're ready to let it go.

Too many miles for that kind of money.

Yup. Especially for a warranty buy-back. Who knows what problems are lurking in there? Bad rear axles (at 210k, almost certain to be bad), smoking cylinder head? Knocking? What else? Who knows? Be CAREFUL!

Don't buy the first one you see! I did and though I haven't had any real issues with it... I wish I had shopped a little more... I was looking for a pick-up and was told about mine sitting on a lot and bought it the day I looked at it... Impulse buy after driving it!

I personally would keep looking...

Do research on that car and find its history if it is indeed a western car rust should not be that much of a problem but they do get wrecked. All those miles its a $3,ooo.oo car depending on history maybe less,RESEARCH IT!

Same thing happened to me.... Impulse buy. There was a nicer one 10 miles away but I didnt want to wait or possibly see this one leave.

My car was said to be clean and was dirtier than a W***e in a mudpit.

KEEP SHOPPING!

I like Ford products in general, and they tend to be pretty reliable. However, like all manufacturers, I'm sure they build the odd problem too. I think you might have found it. I'd shy away from this because I think you're just buying someone else's problem. The car has three strikes against it. 1) It's a lemon law buy back....so it's been deemed unrealiable. 2) 210,000 miles is a lot of miles on anything. You're going to have to do some work to the car. 3) This is not a Grand Marquis or a Crown Victoria. What I mean by that is there are enough unique parts on the Marauder that make it different from the Grand Marquis, notably wearing suspension components, and that some will most likely require replacement especially with the miles on the car. These parts will be more money than what they would be on a Crown Victoria and may not be available outside of a Ford Dealer.

If your looking for a Maurader, I'd skip this one. The Marauder is a great car, but I think you need to find one that's been well taken care of and in good shape. When you find one, you'll have a fantastic performing and reliable car on your hands. I think if you buy this one, you'll not have a good experience with the car at all. That car is almost 1/3 of the price I paid for my car, but if you need to spend another $4000.00 in repairs, you now have a six year old miled out car that you have $10,000.00 in. For $10,000, I'm sure you could start with a much better car than the one you've found.

Hope my opinon helps you out a little :)

Good advice sconut1 ^^^^^. BTW, I like my Japanese vehicle very much and I don't plan any trips to Tokyo.;) I might ,however drive it out to the factory here in the USA where it was built. :)
I also support our troops in Afganistan:)
I LOVE my Canadian built Marauder. :D

Have to say.... it's not just where it's built, it's about where head office is too :)

I concur, pass this one by.
Looks like a money pit to me.
IMO the repairs will be endless.
Don't be fooled by a low price.
You get what you pay for.

Run. It's not worth saving 3 grand to buy a car that has unbelieavably high miles on it.

How can that be a warranty buy back at 210K miles? Also, isn't a Lemon Law recovery normally sent to the scrap yard, never to be driven again?

i think if they document repairs or sell with a salvage title they could resell it, but I would steer clear of it, just knowing its a lemon-law buy back
