Well, the MM survived the cut, the Evil Orb did not. All over but getting the best financing. KIA Sorento crossover for new daily driver/beater. Has more toys than the MM and LS8. Before you laugh, this month's MT said buy it over the Ford Explorer. 5yr/60K bumper to bumper, 10yr/100K power train warranty. So, the MM will probably have a hot 2K miles or less put on her this year. The Sorento is nothing special, but it beats the Ord to death and is alleged to get 32MPG highway. We'll see. It will be going to the beach in SC twice this year. :D

Sup Eric? I wanted a Mazda CX5, but their very hot here and unavailable. So, I actually went to look at a Sportage. Drove a really hot looking red metallic one. Decided my back did not like the drivers seat and the trunk was barely passable for our needs. So the salesman talked me into driving the Sorento. Its Bright Silver Metallic, 2.4Lt, 4 banger with direct gas injection (191HP) feeding a 6 spd slush box that can be shifted manually (great for winter). FWD instead of AWD. Being retired/disabled I felt I didn't need the added expense and lower MPG of AWD. Plus it has stability/traction control for driving in snow/ice. Not a race car by any means, but I wasn't looking for one either. The engine seems adequate for our needs. Handles pretty good for its size. All the toys including a nifty rear backup camera in the rear view mirror. That maybe not be so useable in a real winter here. We'll see in 6 months. Really nice stereo, but no nav. Have a Tom Tom anyway. I won't have to feel like I'm surrounded when I go to the dump. It will fit all my shooting range gear no problem. Really looking forward to seeing what it will actually get MPG wise on the highway. I was not looking forward to paying the gas bill for 2K trip in July/October using the MM. Plenty of hiding spots for junk, drinks. Just made a lot more sense than the Evil Orb or running more miles on the MM, which is now really relegated to toy status. I need to still shake out a tuning problem on it. The air is not working, but know what the prob is and it gets fixed next Friday. I won't drive it at night for fear of hitting a giant horned forest rat. The Sorento has the high/low heated seats the MM has and it was kinder to my back. Also has fog lights, a must here in the hills. Airbags everywhere. I'll need to read the book on this one. Just too many new toys too use. I wish it had the sweet all in one switchblade key the Sportage came with.
Still, it would have been a lot cheaper if I had sold the MM, but no sense in starting WW3 in the house. Well, if I feel the need for speed, she'll be out there waiting.
I'll try to post pics when I actually have the car. I believe I can beat their financing deal with a local credit union. So, I'll play them off against each other. :D
Momma mia, I just bought a Kia! 2nd pic is just like the one I bought, color, wheel wise, fog lamps, which I actually need here. I like the wheels on the 1st one better, but its not a biggy to me. Practical is the operative word here.

Looks good Ray. I saw the same article on the Sorento as you. I drove the "new" Explorer and I think you probably made a good choice in the Sorento.

Taliban and Al-Queda ain't got **** on drug cartels as far as numbers killed. Cartels got that **** on lock-down. Hanging 19 people from a bridge, now twice dumping truckloads of bodies on the streets, all fairly recent. Ragheads kill in onseies and twosies, or detonate bombs in crowded markets and manage to get a large body count, but the cartels don't even use bombs, just round people up and slaughter. Reporters, police, they don't care.

Desmond Hatchett of Knoxville, Tenn., doesn't deny fathering 30 children, by 11 mothers no less -- instead, he's pleading with the state to help him out with child support.
Holding a minimum wage job, Hatchett already gives half his pay to the children's mothers but because he has a minimum wage job some moms get just $1.49 a month in support.
Hmmm....I pay $1,500.00 a month, I must be doing it wrong.

Holy ****! I don't remember hearing about this.
At one point, the penetration into the Chamber of Commerce was so complete that a Chamber thermostat was communicating with a computer in China. Another time, chamber employees were surprised to see one of their printers printing in Chinese.
The same year, a Chinese spy at Ford Motor Company downloaded thousands of files on hybrid engine design and gave them to the Chinese government, and a cyber attack traced to China allegedly stole design secrets to a U.S. stealth fighter jet.

Well, we've had 'pilotless' planes in the AF for awhile now...think we'll have our first 'captainless' aircraft carrier (loaded with pilotless planes) by 2025? The generation that's currently playing MW3 and all those other video games may be the ones to command such vessels/aircraft?

Whoda thought a simple thing like a car could bring folks from all parts of the country together on occasions like this (e.g. business trip up to the edge of civilization)?
As always, whenever we get a chance to swap :bs:, I thoroughly enjoy it, bubba!
We gotta do this again, whenever, and wherever. HINT: 2 letters: SC :D

Edge of civilization? Oh, you must mean the Canadian border. It was great seeing you again. I for one am still full. Yes, SC. How long a drive is that from Garden City to your place? When are they sending you up to Siberia, oops, I mean the Seaway again? Also known as the North Country around here. Its where people got banished to. ;)
Saw only one giant forest rat on the way home. Poor thing got FUBAR'D by 18 wheeler on the T-Way just after I passed it. I took it real easy, dusk & dawn are the worst times to be driving out here. :censor:
Have a good flight home it was fun!

You did not have to stop at the edge of civilization, we let the uncivilized in, just leave your handguns back in the cave, they are not allowed in civilized countries.

Usually a 3 1/2 - 4 hour drive from GVL to MB, with a P stop or two.

Last I knew Canadians were allowed to own handguns with barrels of 4.2" and longer, or something like that. Remember Kernie, a man with a gun is a citizen, a man without a gun is a subject.

Either Christmas of '91 or on my b-day in '92, my brother bought me a shirt from Structure. It became my favorite shirt instantly, and when I found out there was a Structure store located in the mall 15 miles from where I was stationed at the time (Grissom AFB, IN), it was game on! For the next 7-8 years, 90% of my wardrobe consisted of items from Structure...including underwear and socks!
I don't know when (guess around 2000), but Structure stores became non-existant. I discovered a couple weeks ago that Sears carries the Structure brand clothing line, albeit a very scaled-down selection than what they had in their stores. Decided today to go to the mall here and see if Sears had anything...oh boy, did they!
They had most of the stuff on sale as a promo for Father's Day. I got 3 'graphic' t-shirts, 1 crew neck T, 4 polo shirts, 2 pairs of cargo shorts, and swim trunks. Regular price on all this stuff would've come out to $308.42, plus tax; I paid $147.83 (incl tax) AND got a $20 Sears gift card.
I plan on going back in a couple days to use the gift card and get what I passed up on today. I love Structure clothes!!!!

Thanks Jim. It has to be 85*+ for me to feel good. What I really need to get away from are the constant weather changes we have here. A cold front going through overnight means I get no sleep. :( That happens far too often here. The only place I've seen where the weather changes faster than here is Ireland.

Just dropped locally into the high $3.50s. Its been $3.75 for weeks. Thats 87 of course. 93 is still almost $4, hence the MM and LS sit 90% of the time. The milage on the Sorento just continues to get better. Averaging 23.5 now around here. Not as good as the Evil Orb, but three times the room and amenities. We'll see once its broken in. If it gets anywhere near 30 on our trip to GCB, I'll be overjoyed. Last year the MM got 19.5mpg :( :censor::censor::censor:

Dakslim went to the doctor to get a physical. A few days later the doctor saw him walking down the street with a gorgeous young lady on his arm, with a big ol' grin on his face.
At Phil's next appointment, the doctor said, "You're really doing great, aren't you?"
Phil replied, "Just doing what you said, 'Get a hot mamma and be cheerful.'"
The doctor said, "I didn't say that. I said you got a heart murmur. Be careful."
