View Full Version : Time For New Screen Name?
On the way to Marauderville, I was talking to my wife about this site, and how some of us are un-creative and just use our regular names for a screen name, while some have given some real thought to the screen name they use. She said, "Since you drive this big black car, why not call yourself The Black Knight?" The more I thought about it, the more it started to sound good. I looked at the member list, and don't see a Black Knight listed. What do y'all think, cool or corny? Maybe I should start a poll!

Sorry, Ross, I prefer reality. I've been hanging around the 'net since you could, and I appreciate the "let's be real" approach of this board. It's unique, how people here, by and large, do not hide behind screen names and "profiles."
When I first met Zack, I asked him his real name. "Zack" he said, with a look on his face that said "like, duh...what did you expect?" Using your real name says something about your views on trust, willing to give it, and expecting some in return and I find that exactly to be the case with Todd Alan Fisher, Marty, BigDogJim, Logan, and so on...IMHO.
Whatever works for you, eh?
BTW, while we're on the topic, I wish y'all fill out that profile a tad more complete. Wouldn't hurt to add your city and state, so we can give y'all a heads up on what's happening in your area. No one is going to hut you down for anything, eh? How about y'all?

Email me your info. I'll try to distribute weekly as I get groups of names. Share what you want others to know, with a minimum of email and location. Only those supplying me with info, get the list. It will not be openly published.

My .02 - The only reason I use "Racerx88" is because I've been using it since I first got on the net. I use it everywhere, on almost every board I'm on. Started with it, and saw no reason to stop.
On the ones that count, I just put my real name in the signature.
I agree with SergntMac, fill out those profiles more!!

Like Mac, I've been on the net since the days of gopher, but I guard my anonymity as much as is reasonably possible.
It's not that I don't trust all of you, but I just don't want my real name and information all over the net. Color me paranoid.

In order to have less info to clutter up my little mind, I just use my own name. I kinda like it anyway.

Personally Ross I don't see anything wrong with your screen name. I sure makes it easier to remember real names when your at a meet!
I've been using Petrograde for almost 10 years, and I agree with Forth Horseman on the security issue. Not that I don't trust you guys but George Carlin once said:
"Paranoia, you only have to be right once to make it all worth while!" I've been right twice.
Don't do it, Ross! Be proud.
I've been using Alan as my username before all this fancy web-stuff came around. Some of us remember using Veronica, Archie, Gopher, Telnet, Kermit, Pine email, CuteFTP, etc.

Well, my screen name is actually the short version of my last name, got it that way from the military when they couldn't pronounce it, the 50 is for the 1989 Mustang GT 5.0 that I was known for:burnout: and it kind-da stuck that way. I like it.

I have to agree about security. I started using this pseudonym back in the days of BBS's and gopher when someone suddenly called me up one day. I was stunned.
So I use the moniker "Dr Caleb" usually because "Dr. Who" is one of the firstt o go, and when I get more confortable with a site, I'll include some of my real information.

I like my screen name. Long Live #3 is just my way of saying 'all hail the greastest NASCAR driver!'
Smokie

Ross I think you should use the screen name that makes you happy, I chose Smokie because that is what my wife named the car the day we brought it home. It is not related to law enforcement, however there are LEO's in my family. Anyway if Black Knight makes you happy use it, go with your gut feeling....you won't go wrong.

Well, use what you like. If you still want to use Ross, how about "Black Knight Ross" ?

like others have said, i also like to keep my real name a little distant from my handle. that doesnt mean i mind sharing it with the fine folks here but its more to stop data-miners and obsessive stalkers and what not.
but in the end, whatever floats your boat ross.
You know, bastid, it's not "stalking" unless someone does it more than once! :)
Well...at least here in Texas. The first time is always "on the house". Next time someone tries it...I'm taking 'em downtown in the back seat of my go-fast CVPI.

Having a character screen name is fun. (coming from one with no imagination in mine, I know :D )
And the Black Knight is an awesome name.
Have fun.

Screen names are there to protect. Just like on the CB radios. I am comfortable in using my name with all of you. Other sites get a screen name, not this one. I am not saying that screen names are good or bad, just that I know when to use one.

BLACK KNIGHT is a great screen name...
Go for it and enjoy!
