Alright guys, I have a good friend who has a '99 Cougar V6 and he wants me to do an oil change for him this week. Since many of you guys are ford techs I was hoping you could help me out. Is there anything special about these cars i need to know? Any particular points or common trouble spots I should look at? He bought the car used and his warranty ends next month so he wanted me to give the car a once over, but since i know nothing about this car I thought I would ask here.

Thanks guys!

Well, nOOB, all I can tell you is check the whole car over real good those cars have Muiltiple problems for one how many miles ,auto's the trans is usually done for at about 120,xxx cooked, They have or seemed to on alot of them electrical problems. I could go on but I think you get the point. They have personally give me trouble in the Body shop side of things. There just flat hard to work on more so the V-6 than 4 it just not alot of room under the hood. On the other hand I have seen some that are well maintained and are in fairly decent cars? BUt just seem to see more with problems than without.

You have to look at it as," why would i buy this car?" or "would i trust this car for my mother".

The oil filter is in a cumbersome place.

Other than that, you'll be fine.
