View Full Version : Eratic Idle - Blown MM

Hi all, my problem only occurs when the car is at normal operating temp only, and is in either neutral or park. The idle speed will be very eratic at times and then level out for a bit. Then start up again. Will idle smooth at the set rpm, and then feel like the motor surged and dropped the idle speed down. Sometimes it goes low enough to stall the engine. When in drive, the idle is steady. Only when out of gear. This idle speed hunt goes on and on. Most times it recovers from the stumble and does not die, but sometimes it will stall. Any ideas?

We have covered this topic before II RC. The Idle Air Controller seemed to be the villain. It has a little motor in it and the part may be expensive.

Use the search function, key words, Idle Air Controller.

18k miles on the car. Can the IAC go out that fast?

I heard of them going at 5K miles. Its still a 6 year old part no matter how many miles on it.

+1 on cleaning it first.
