I just got a letter in the mail notifying me that I have to have the MM tested for emmissions next month. My question is should I take the DR tune off and go back to stock before the testing? If I do remove the tune before testing, when should remove it?
Thanks in advance for the help.

Yes remove it and drive the car for a day take it in and have the test, and put it back.

Thanks for the quick response guys. Here in my county they have a really bad habit of suspending registrations for emmissions failures.

My car passes emissions with the tune in. If you take it out, you better drive for a few day's or you will get the "computer not ready" message.

wow that sucks. worst here is we have to get a 30day temp tag. then again we have to do full inspecaion every 2 years and by full i mean
check lights n signals
check brakes
check for tint
check emmisions
go in office pay 989757895678 dollars n go home pissed off that you waiting in line for ever for basicly nothing

If your car fails emissions in MD...LOL...its funny to me sorry, they give you like 3 months to bring it back to pass. :D I dont have a tune, so if it requires unhooking something from the "computer" do that ahead of time. For cars older then 1996, I believe, they put it on the treadmill...I had a car almost fly off that thing! Good Times...but it passed!

are you in IL? If so leave it alone, the test reads that the computer is responding to the emissions parts o2's, evap, cats. The test does not recognize that there is a tune in the car unless the tune turns off too many (2 or more) emission parts. Been there done that, but just my 2 pennies

My car passes emissions with the tune in.
Mine too. No problem last time.

It is my understanding that in Virginia they normally just plug into the OBD port and check for error codes and may do a visual inspection. I just passed last month with Kooks headers and a dyno tune from DR.

I have a five gas analyser that I'm just dieing to try out on modded cars this summer. Brand new from Snap-On and it seems pretty trick. It even does rolling road analysis with time-stamped interval testing. Anyone else tried this with their modded cars? Anyone out there provide "Emmisions Passing" performance tunes?

I never had any problems here. In Fairfax County in Northern VA, they are extremely strict on emissions and I never had a problem with the DR tune installed at the time of testing. I even passed, with flying colors, in December with Long Tubes, a custom exhaust, and the S/C... If they just plug it in to the OBD port, you should be just fine. Good luck!

supercharged in Ga and passed here they check the computer
I had a customer with a 05 mustang, with a chip, go through and pass, then got a letter in the mail a couple weeks later that said that the car needed to be reinspected because they caught a modification to the computer, we had to take the chip out and re test, and the guy that did the test said that the state audits the tests once and a while and then they will catch it. they never caught the one in my marauder. thats Connecticut though.

Here in Ohio we can get Collector plates, that relieves you of any emission testing.

Hack, how long have you had the tune. Mine passed the first year with the DR tune, but i had that way long before i took it in. Only reason it didn't pass this past November, was not enough drive cycles before i took it in and lack of communication with the inspection computer.
If you do remove the tune make sure you give it at least two weeks of varied driving, and idling to reset the parameters before you take it in.

Its been longer than a year for the DR tune. Maybe I should just take the tune off and do it that way. I just want to get the test over and pass it.

That would be best.....it may work or it may not....but why risk it...save the time and take out the tune...

Norhtern Ohio only, we used to have to go through it as well, the dip at the inspection station tried to fail my SS Impala because he saw the headers, he didn't mind the the cylinders were counting off, just went by his visual inspection. The car did pass.

I failed our beloved Ontario e-test not because of the tune but because of a bad catalytic converter. Spoke to Lidio after I failed my emissions and he assured me that his tune was safe for e-testing (not sure about the DR tune though) and he was right.

Well since I only have 2 weeks left before they suspend my plates for the emissions testing I went ahead and removed the tune and went back to stock. SIGH... Its going to be a hum drum week and an half. I will advise of the results when I get the test done.

Hope you pass, I know I was nervous after I replaced my 2 cats with some high spuns, she passed with no problems and that was with the tune....good luck
