I'm about to install a By-Pass oil filter system from AMSOIL. Anyone done one of these, or a relocation of the oil filter. This setup requires room for two 7" deep oil filters, a full flow filter, and a by-pass filter. For those who are wondering why? A regular full flow filter, will filter 20-30 microns at 94-96% efficiency. The additional by-pass filter, filters down to 1 micron. It takes about 45 minutes to run the full capacity through the by-pass filter. Considering what the clearances are on engines, it makes perfect sense. I am also using AMSOIL Series 2000 0W30 Full Synthetic. I'm hoping this combo will help make the engine more efficient, and last longer.

cool,.. I was thinking about relocating the oil filter too, for easier oil changes. I didn't know you could have 2 filters. Please post some pics when your done! Do you have a link to the product site? Thanks!

here is the link. And I was wrong, here is the info from AMSOIL (I Copied & Pasted it)
Engine wear is caused by dirt particles larger than 5 microns. The AMSOIL By-Pass Oil Filter removes particles as small as 1/10 of a micron, virtually eliminating engine wear. AMSOIL By-Pass Oil Filters filter all the oil in a six-quart system in about five minutes at an average engine speed equivalent to 45 mph.
Oh and thank you for the welcome. I look forward to many hours on this site.

Forgive me, what is PM's - Private Messages?
Also don't know if you read this far but check this out.
Dual Remote Filter System
The AMSOIL Dual Remote Oil Filtration System converts an engine’s full-flow oil filter system into a full-flow/by-pass oil filtration system by attaching an AMSOIL Full-Flow Oil Filter and AMSOIL Spin-On By-Pass Oil Filter onto a remote mount. The Dual Remote System provides superior filtration efficiency, increased oil capacity and improved oil filtration accessibility.
The engine will last forever if you change the oil regularly.
Invest your money in an oil cooler instead.
As for difficulty of oil changes, I have never had a problem.
I put the filter on hand tight from ABOVE the engine.
I never access the filter from below.
Seriously, dont waste your money with remote filtration

I think you missed the point on the filtration. I did the research and found in the long run the synthetic with PROPER filtration is both CHEAPER and better for your engine in the long run. Also I am not road racing, or keeping my engine reved to 6000 RPM all the time, so I'm thinking I'm better off with the better filtering of my engines lifeblood. Thanks for your input though.

Extra filtering and more oil capacity is always a good thing, but if you go with the 1/10th mic filter, be prepared to change that filter once a month, she'll clog up pretty fast.
Gotta see your install when your done.

Zack,
One of the reason to move the filter is to get it into a vertical position so it does not dribble all over. And being vertical, you can fill the new filter with oil before putting it on.

Hey Merc406,
You change the by-pass filter once a YEAR, and the full flow every 12,500 miles or 6 Months. You should check out these links.

I run a dual filter now, and there's no way I'd wait that long between filter changes, I don't care what they claim.
