View Full Version : Bought a Bass

No not a fish. I picked up a Fender Standard Jazz. I've been playing guitar for over 25 years. Picked up an 8 track recorder and Cakewalk Home to try some recording but it needed some low end. Pitch shifting the guitar tracks didn't sound right so when a co-worker said he had a bass for sale I jumped on it. It's a lot of fun. It's also a workout for my fingers. Those strings are a lot harder to fret. Now I want to try other instruments. Who know what else I could play. And the first one to post "skin flute" is dead!

I've been playing bass for 8-9 years now. I've got a few....I'll never pick up a guitar though. Have fun with it!

The first song you must learn is Longview by Green Day. Almost every bass players first song. It's pretty simple too, especially since you have been playing guitar. ;)

Ah, you are right. I have heard it. Never learned to play it though. I stuck myself to learning rhcp stuff when i was younger.

it actually is a good song to practice bass on, but i always hated green day so forgive my digestive reaction! another song that's fun to play on bass and has a decent groove is "green eyed lady" by sugarloaf: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xc1PHk9FhIk

i started on drums in '89, picked up bass in '98, and guitar in '01. believe it or not, learning each instrument made me better at the others...

I started playing drums in '99..... I guess im pretty decent is what I hear;)

I love Bass though. Always have. But I could never get the coordination of my fingers to play a stringed instrument. I stick to hitting the skins...

I totally believe it. Hey if you don't like Green Day that's fine, I don't like anything really from the 90s.

Already learned it. Love Greenday. Also learned "She" I always loved that bass riff. Played around with some Rush songs too but some of that is a little too much for me right now. Oh...and I had to learn "Borris the Spider" Maybe I'm showing my age on that one.

I don't like anything really from the 90s. wait, ain't i gonna see ya at the almighty new bomb turks show in chicago in a couple weeks? we can make it a MMN mini-meet, as it looks like there will be two carloads of clevelanders coming out there - both in marquis GS's (02 and 04).

they started in '91ish.

there are a TON of great '90s bands! don't get me started!

Oh I'm gonna get you started alright. Just because I said I didn't like 90's bands doesn't mean they lack talent. I think were going to have a nice long talk when we meet up. Also be ready to stop by my place to listen to some REAL Rock N' Roll on vinyl... frankly I don't think you need any lessions, but a little listening never hurt anyone. ;)

depending on when we arrive and when we have to depart (and what i require when i get to chicago -- hot doug's (http://www.hotdougs.com/menu.htm)), i might be up for that. also, if i survive riding in the car with this guy (http://b9.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/00427/94/22/427282249_l.jpg)...
