OK, i have a problem for the experts.
My 2004 SB has developed a klunk when stopping. It seems to make the noise during stopping when the weight transfurs forward just prior to coming to a complete stop. The car has 58K miles on it and the only mod to the rear are slotted cllipers with ceramic pads.
My guess is a lose link somewhere in the rear suspension. I have a lot of experience with Mustangs (up to the SN-95) but the Marauder is a different animal.
I have verified nothing in the trunk is shifting around making the noise.
It is going up on the jack stands tomorrow for a close inspection, but any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks!

:Offtopic: justbob locked in the trunk?
Sorry,I just couldn't resist.
I do hope you find and correct the problem,I've got a clunk on the right side inside(?) my P71 when I hit a bump and it's starting to drive me nuts.I'd swear there's something loose inside one of the doors.

With a P71 there could be something loose or in the door, have you ever pulled the panel?

everything in the door seems to be working correctly. If I dont find anything under the car, I will start checking interior.
ps, I left a tuna sandwich in the trunk for justbob!

I put the MM on jackstands and found the front seal of the differential is leaking. Guess I will be checking with Mercury tomorrow and see if the car is still under warranty. With 59K miles, it should be.

What a coinky dink... Mine is leaking there too.
Its really easy to change. If its not covered no need to fear. Only crap part is you and your garage will smell like ass from gear oil.

Ass smells better than gear oil with friction modifier in it! Ass with friction modifier in it is a whole different story.

Obviously you guys underestimate the ability of my ass!!!
Plus the parts are still covered by the warranty. Otherwise, I would be under it finger deep in stinkey fluids.

Careful when reinstalling the pinion flange and tightening the nut or you will crush the sleeve further and load the bearing excessively resulting in this!!!
Don't ask me how I know!!:shake:

Marauderjack, what was the cost to replace the seal?

I would guess $50.00 or so.....half an hour plus seal and oil??
You can do it yourself but need to follow explicit instructions to get the proper bearing preload!!
I over tightened mine a little.......and the bearing went bad but it took 75K miles to do so!!:shake:
Check with any private shop that does rear end work.....they will be able to do it right in less than an hour!!
