View Full Version : Wacky wipers

My wipers would turn on all by themselves sometimes fast sometimes slow and on rare occasions even spray the washer fluid till its empty. I brought the car to the dealer and they changed the multi function switch, brought the car home after repair drove to work and guess what they did it again. I called back the dealer and they were perplexed because the multi switch should have taken care of the problem but obviously not, and of course the wipers did not act up at the dealer. Any help/suggestions would be grateful.

Problem is in the module. I had this happen a number if times before they got it right last time if happened it cost $1800. because it took out wipers, lights. and heat-A/C unit. You can search for threads on the problem as they are maney.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Get the wiper motor replaced asap so it doesn't cause other things to go bad.

Search on "Wacky Wipers". There is alot of history and a TSB on the "Uncommanded Wiper Operation". Make sure that they clean out the water trap and enlarge the hole. The wiper motor is shorting out due to puddling water below the motor. I have had 3 wiper motors replaced.
Well, the Bluerauder is back home and the wacky wiper problem has been corrected for the 3rd time .... sure hope the 3rd time is a Charm.
Total bill was $25.96. But that was for the oil and filter change and topping off the fluids. :D
Wiper motor and wiring was replaced "gratis" under a redo of TSB 05-04-09/warranty terms since the last fix 6 months ago was not applied properly.
Parts listed:
6W7Z-17508-AC Motor A 137493
3W7Z-17A477-AA Wiring 812722
Service advisor told me that the wiper module and the multi-function switch checked out as OK. Let him know that I'd be back if the wiper problem acted up again. ;)

Check this link, if the cleaning procedure doesn't fix the problem, you can replace the wiper motor assembly for less than $150 and your problems will disappear.

No problem. The wacky wiper issue seems more prevalent for those MMs that tend to live outdoors and catch debris and stuff off of the trees during the spring and the fall. That crap clogs the drain hole and the motor shorts out. That has been my impression over the years.
