There is a Max, ND, population 262. Couldn't make out the fouth letter, maybe an L or and e. Is it part of the prefix Max, seems to be a break between the two?

Bottineau, population 2157, is about 90 miles north and a little east of Max and not even in a straight line on todady's map.

I found a 1904 map but that part of ND was not fully populated yet, so no towns.

I found a Chest Bjorngaard in the 1900 census, in Grand Forks ND. There were a cluster of Bjorngaard's in NE section of North Dakota and Minnesota. There is even Bjorngaards in the town of the dealership, Bottinau.

I think I could hear the faint beat of "Tom Toms" in the background and I swear I felt the swish of arrows flying past me, nah.
