And a video of it being dragged out the lake:

Couldn't believe they got it to start so easily. I want to know who swam down and kicked it into neutral to drag it out.

Those pics are un-real! Can you imagine the force the the dozer and cable were under to pull 62 tons of metal up that hill and through the mud! That had to be like a 3" steel tow line!

Tank was 27 tons. I believe that this was initially posted just after the MM Group visited the Patton Museum at Fort Knox, KY during the Apr 08 Louisville, KY meet. Someone thought that it was one of the tanks on display in the museum. The story and video are a couple years old, I think.
Getting tanks, bulldozers and heavy equipment out of mud holes ain't fun.

Checkout Tank Overhaul on the Military or Discovery channels. They restore everything from an M4 Sherman to Panzers to tank destroyers. There are episodes where they found a German or Russian tank in a Polish river, got it out and restored it. Very interesting.

There are still a bunch of WWII aircraft lost there during the war when they were practicing landings on the special carriers they had out there then.A bunch of them have been brought up in surprisingly good condition.

I believe the plane they have hanging in Midway Airport going to Terminal A is one of the same practice carrier planes that they brought up from the bottom of Lake Michigan and restored.
