View Full Version : Mike's BLUE Intake

He just left, we had a blast. :D

I had his upper and lower powdercoated BLUE to piss knine off.
It looks really good, but definitely does not match the DPB paint. Its close, but to duplicate the paint would have cost a few hundo more (3 stage powdercoating vs. single stage.) Anyway, the pics make the BLUE look way lighter than it actually is, but in person it really set things off. I didnt want to go too dark and risk it looking black.
This color is actually very close to Genuine Ford Engine Blue.
Enjoy the pics.

Hmmm, not really.
Im gonna go to the garage in a few and wrap up my fuel system on the Black MM.
Then at 3pm Brad is dropping his car off to get a Trilogy, SW Headers, J-Mod & Control Arms. Once that is done I will get to the much needed surgery on my BLUE.

It looks good and great color choice. I'm wondering if it would have been possible to have included the valve covers in the project while it was that far apart? :)

Sorry, but IMHO it look ugly... specially when the JLT is the correct color.

Do it right or don't do it at all.

Flame suit on. :flamer:

I wont be as bold, but I do agree.

I think it should have been a bit brighter and I also agree with Mike Poore, I think the cam covers should have been done as well to make it stand out more.
Try detailing the engine, maybe that would change my mind.

First, it looks like the power coating was done well. However, the color, via pics at least, looks terrible. It looks so dull and brings me visions of an old rusted out pick up truck or even an old farm tractor.

Also, the whole set up is wrong. If one is going to powder coat the intakes, make sure that the color goes well with the rest of the engine or powder coat the rest too (not necessarly the same color as the intake but one that matches).

Just my 2 cents.

Valve covers might happen at a later date

Too bad you didn't have the time/cash to do them at the same time, especially since they're such a pain to remove.

BTW, a little secret: The red spray stuff that K&N sells to spray their filters? I learned that if you give the rusty looking bolts/nuts and aluminum stuff that looks nasty a little spritz and wipe with it, they come out looking very nice. :D

Zack, thanks again for taking the time to get these powder coated and installed :bows: As both you and I agree, it doesn't match 100%, but it's nice to see some color under the hood. When I decide on getting the cam covers done and I have extra $$$$$$$$$$ I'll have things done to match the DPB, but for right now, I'm happy. THANK YOU

I agree with the time & cash :alone: As for the mess under the hood, I drove about 1 1/2 hours in the driving rain to get to Zack's

When the cam covers are done, it will look better.

It is REALLY tough to find a match at the coating shop.

Nothing to have an M.I. over; just paint the JLT intake tube the same color as the powder coated intake. ;)

That's because I had it done for him, I just didn't start a thread about it. Am I too late? It was last year. :dunno:

The Sonic Blue color I pictured above will look way better

Blue Bling! All those parts together in matching colors will truly, truly be Da Bomb, The ****znits, All That And A Bag Of Chips, and a few more complimentary sayings I can't think of.
