Its absolutely worth it! I went with infinity components in the door's and infinity's in the rear..... You will get the itch to upgrade more after you install new speakers! (like me:D)

I upgraded my speakers front & rear added sound deadener result little improvement. Your best bang for the buck change out the head unit & speakers at the same time.

Sean, we got your other purchase today... adn I can say, Im scared of it.

I had 6 way components in my MM. It was AMAZING. Do not skimp on speakers, they will thank your ears later. Also I was using the stock sub and head unit. Still shook my butt in the seat lol

I would recommend the Infinity's as well, for the price you will be hard pressed to find better.

I did four Kenwoods celleron? 5X8 and it is huge improvement over stock.
I used the Metra adapters so I did not have to butcher the factory wiring.
I got adapters @ Circuit city, but I know other places sell them(ebay).

I have Pioneers front and rear. I also went with Crutchfield for the adaptors to make installation a piece of cake and have no cut wiring.

Speakers are the single best upgrade you can do to a sound system. Factory speakers are piss-poor at best with paper cones and no tweeter. However - if you plan on ONLY using the factory radio to power them, carefully choose what you buy. The OE radio makes about 10-15 watts per channel and if you install apeakers that handle 120 watts - they will not be very efficient and not nearly as realistic and loud as speakers rated for less power. I have JL Audio components but I also run a 300/4 amplifier for my speakers. I would listen to the guys' suggestions here. They have the SAME car so the listening environment has no variables. If the majority of people like one type of speaker, it's a good bet you will too.
