I will get a Detroit True Trac soon, but I think the stock spline number was 29 right? I heard 31 is better, why is that? If so what do I have to change in the rear end to make a Detroit Locker work with a 31 spline?
Thanks.

Snapped the 31 spline, went with a 35 spline

How much power and what tires do you have?
Stock is 28 spline, and from what I understand if you use stock tires you are not gonna break them:confused:

How do I go from a 28 to 31 or 35? Is it as simple as ordering a certian locker model or does more have to be changed before an upgrade?

You have to change axles also.
The difference in strength is somewhat counter-intuitive. The splines are bigger on a 28 spline axle than a 31 or 35. If an individual spline was measured the 28 spline shaft would probably be stronger. But there is more surface area for the load to be applied to with the higher spline count so overall it is the stronger solution.

You are my hero. Only real men can snap a 31.:P

When you run slicks and use a transbrake, funny things can happen......

Stock is 31 spline, just had to replace a axle on mine after sliding it into a hard curb in the snow and bending a axle flange. If you go to a Ford dealer, they will tell you it's a 28 spline and give you a 28 spline axle but this is WRONG. Have them look up a 2006 CVPI and it will give you both options.

You put a 31 spline in a marauder? or a cv? Marauders never came with 31... maybe you got an odd ball.

Yes, 03' Marauder. I was sold a 28 spline axle but when I compared them saw the obvious difference in spline diameter. 31 spline went back in.
So....they didn't come with 31 spline axles? I thought MM had the same axles as a CVPI, and as far as I know, those are 31's??

Yeah, the marauders never came with 31spline, so you got a free upgrade. Not often that line mistakes work out for the better

Either you got one that somebody else had already upgraded or you got a factory mistake. Marauders came with 28 splines. As did CVPI until '06.

REALLY?!?! WOW lucky me!!
Man, I could have sworn that the axle I pulled out was factory, paint on the back side of the axle (just like the new one) looked like the cover had never been off (smelled that way too.)

Is putting in a set of 31's an easy swap or do I need to replace more?
