I need to know some information.

What was done to cars back in the early 30s to make them into Hot Rods? What I know is: hubcaps were removed, big fenders were removed, mufflers were removed for headers... I know what was removed, but what about what was done to the car?

I could look it up, but a search will always lack a little something, that's why I've come here to ask. Please let me know what you know! :cool:

They had custom heads and stuff for cars even back then Dom,I believe Frontneac was one brand of after market heads for the old 4 banger Fords.Do a Google search for Model T Speedsters and check them babies out,those were real bare bones rods.

I know folks used to mill the heads and block deck to increase compression.

OHV conversions were always popular,specially on the early 4 bangers.Duntov OHV truck heads were popular on the V8 Ford flatmotors but had some bugs in them and weren't cheap, plus like the Beach Boys said,porting and relieving and stroking were popular ways to get the V8 flatty's to run.
Of course if you had an SJ Deusenberg you had a machine that would walk and talk,supercharged DOHC 4 valve 7 liter straight eight,but Deusy's were $20,000 to start with in Depression $,and had custom made coach work bodies. $10K for a rolling chassis and $10K and up for the body.If you've ever heard an SJ Deusy driven in anger you'd swear you just heard a 427 Ford FE go by you.

Dom, Rocknthehawk can tell you endless knowledge of Rat Rods, and just old school hot rods. It fun to go to car shows with him, he will walk down the line and front or back instantly tell you year make and model. He knows them all by only the grill!

Now 40s and 50s got more into frenching headlights, shaving antennas, custom rear lights, and fire throwing exhaust.

Lead sled refers to the lead they used since Bondo wasnt around/good enough. Old Mercs make the best sleds....

The true definition of hot rodding is the first time you alter any part of your car to make it faster or look different to please your personal preference. This is why I don't poke fun at anyone who does anything to their ride. It may not be my style, but it make the owner happy.

Midjet race cars, in the late 50's some guys used a Ford "60" v/8 with "OFFIE" heads and intake, cut headers, on alcohol, they were the on's that could not afford the real "Offenhauser" engine. Push start, direct drive, lot's of fun !! ;) Good one could beat an "Offie" but wouldn't last long, rod and crank failure. :(
