funny how they have a recall on cars fron the 90's when the 2004 thru 2005 and some 2006 gto's have been blowing out front tires due to the front tires rubing on the struts due to them being strapped down to tight when they shipped them over here and from gm putting on slightly wider tires too than what the monaros had. wheres the recall for that?!!!

Quote from the article:

"Apparently, some of these engines can drop oil onto the exhaust manifold during hard braking. If that manifold has gotten hot enough and the oil dribbles below the heat shield, it can start a small fire. The flames can then engulf the plastic spark plug wire channel, potentially resulting in a full-on engine compartment fire."

This is the part I don't understand:

"The fix? Dealer service departments will be asked to remove said spark plug wire retention channel from the front of the engine bay, and then retrofit two new retainers."

So rather than fix the OIL LEAK so fires won't start in the first place, they're fixing the channel where the fire gets worse...

...and people wonder why GM has been rated "FAIL" for so many years... :shake:

They're just trying to keep up with Ford's infamous cruise control recall. Or maybe it's the ignition switch, who knows?

But yeah what old motors DON'T leak oil? Seals wear out...it's a given.

I wonder if engine makers take into account future leaks when designing a motor system, i.e. will a small leak cause a drip onto a hot part?

I honestly don't think this is GM's fault, it's no wonder it took years for this issue to be noticed - the engines had to age to the point they start leaking oil.

seems odd that a car company would do a massive recall 2 months before its going to go bankrupt i smell something fishy here?
