Bluerauder needs to see this, he's a big SmartCar fan. ;)

I guess the Smart car gets thumbs up for being cute but is really impractical as hell. I will never risk my life for a few MPG. Motorcycles are thrilling and I own them but a car is a different matter. Seeing a Smart car in a controlled crash is one thing - but what about other factors like huge SUV's and trucks? That thing is instant death in overtime.

The folks who demand we downsize to smaller vehicles, suggest that when they hit Barbara's Navigator, head on, in their Smart Car, they'd get killed and she wouldn't get hurt.

I agree; and the point is?

There's an up side, though. Those fuel sipping little turds are driving down the price of fuel, meaning there's more for us. :D

Didn't Aren Jay get booted? I am confused! If he is back, whatever... just wondering what happened! This is like bizzarro world!

Would a smart car dent a Marauder?

No, he didn't.

And that's all I'm going to say on the matter.

He did NOT get "booted", as you say, nor was he pressured by the site owners to go away. Many of us take sabbaticals for whatever reason and return, again, for whatever reason, perhaps to reflect upon what we expect to take away from the site, or what to add.

In any case, I've noticed a welcome difference in Aren Jay's posts, as to content and tone, and that's his choice, as it's your choice to respond or ignore his posts as you wish.

It goes without saying, though, that fair and respectful treatment toward AJ as a member in good standing, will be expected as everyone here reciprocally wishes to be treated.

We're family, here ......welcome back A.J. :)

1st, that type of crash (head on with another vehicle) is very rare (1-2%) of accidents.

Secondly, I suspect that the test was funded by someone who wants us to drive larger cars or even one who supports the American Auto industry.

Why did they only test 3 "import" micro cars?

Where was the Aveo Vs. Malibu?

Where was the Fusion Vs. Fiesta? (They are going to be sold here soon enough and they could have used one from Europe for the test.)

The Smart Car did A LOT better in these test (against an S-Class no less).

Here are the big safe cars in MUCH more common style crashes. Safe Indeed.

Sorry, I forgot to add, I almost pulled my hair out when that fool suggested driving a hybrid for fuel economy AND safety.

What a joke. I can only imagine what would happen to those batteries under extreme type of accidents. I even read that some fire departments won't go to rescue those in hybrids whose batteries have been compromised in an accident. A specially trained unit will need to be called out. Not sure if I believe that story, but I do know that those large, expensive, and TOXIC batteries are not what I would want in my car.

Smart Vs. S-Class. Bigger, larger, heavier than a Marauder.

Try a Marauder vs a motorcycle! /sarcasm

The lesson here is - don't get in a slightly off centre accident with a 'city' car. Unsurprisingly, you will get hurt, pretty bad. Be somewhere else at that time.
