31 spline axles good source?

I'm considering upgrading my rear end to 31 spline axles and a 31 spline Cobra dif.
I got Ford parts acess through work, but sometimes the prices are considerably higher than shopping around for aftermarket and wholesale sources.
I found the Cobra diff for 250.00 @SW ford
The deal of the century, 4:10 Ford gears new for 115.00
Any body got a set of 31 spline axles rotting on the shelfz?:P

Moser 31 splines are around $300.00 per set to your door. No bearing or ABS ring to.....

I think the ford parts out of the 06+ vics are supposed to be pretty cheap

ford cvpi 07. cant remember the part numbers, but I posted all the info a month or two back... they are cheaper than moser AND come with abs rings the work wonderful with our set up!!!!

31 spline axles started in 2005 on the CVPI. BTW, how much is the Torsen differential in the Ranger FX4 Level going for nowadays?

The Factory 31 spline are just under 190.00 ea. W ABS ring
The Moser 31 spline are 220.00 ea. plus shipping I swap my abs ring to the new axles.
I'm leaning Moser, 2 days to get.

Why the moser if they are more expensive and don't come with the ring? Are you expecting them to be stronger?

yes they are stronger and u can get a shop to press the old ring off and use them

This is probably a dumb question but if I upgrade to 31 spline axles would I also need to change the dif to a 31 spline or can you just change the dif splines ?

You need to change the entire carrier assembly.

450+ rwhp / widened rims & 295 Nittos, oh ya and me drivin like I stole it.... I would say the cpvi Ford axles are just fine (and usually on the shelf at the dealer).....
But to each his own...

you should never break an axle with the nitto 295s, they don't hook for anything :burnout:

Remember that the Marauder has longer axle shafts than a CV or GM. It has Town Car a length rear axle for a wider track.

Any drive shaft purchased may be substituted with a conversion unit. Conversion units are typically stronger and will last longer than the OEM style. SORRY BRO but really all you need are the 31 spline side gears for a posi and hey will work in the same carrier as the 28 were in.
been there done it on my older fox with the factory posi and upgraded to 31 splines.
BUT if ya have a good parts guy he could tell ya that.lol
I went with the ford axles and carrier set up the price was too good to turn down.

SORRY BRO, but the 31 spline side gears in the OEM differential are no longer available...the newer replacements are cut differently...no retrofit & won't work. They had problems...you might think they would have figured it out after making the 8.8 for ~ 30 years.
