I wouldn't buy a car that can fit in my Marauders trunk.

No, I am not looking to buy a fuel efficient car. That requirement in a car is of no importance to me. period.

1st, that type of crash (head on with another vehicle) is very rare (1-2%) of accidents.
Secondly, I suspect that the test was funded by someone who wants us to drive larger cars or even one who supports the American Auto industry.
Why did they only test 3 "import" micro cars?
Where was the Aveo Vs. Malibu?
Where was the Fusion Vs. Fiesta? (They are going to be sold here soon enough and they could have used one from Europe for the test.)
The Smart Car did A LOT better in these test (against an S-Class no less).

Here are the big safe cars in MUCH more common style crashes. Safe Indeed.

Also, I almost pulled my hair out when that fool suggested driving a hybrid for fuel economy AND safety.
What a joke. I can only imagine what would happen to those batteries under extreme type of accidents. I even read that some fire departments won't go to rescue those in hybrids whose batteries have been compromised in an accident. A specially trained unit will need to be called out. Not sure if I believe that story, but I do know that those large, expensive, and TOXIC batteries are not what I would want in my car.<!-- / message -->

Next year, I will be seriously looking after another MGM or a T/C.
I always consider the comfort, the reliability, the safety, the inside space, the design and the maintenance cost before selecting a car. MPG is just ONE parameter and you do not sit in it.

Its actually true - but THEIR story had a better editor and spellchecker. Hybrids have hundreds of volts of electricity, leaking corrosive acids and unpredictable results when crushed in accidents. I will neither flatbed or store one due to liability issues.

I would like to see a smartcar vs. a ford excursion head on crash. That would be entertaining. I have NEVER considered gas mileage when buying a car or truck.

The Smart Car did pretty good in the euro ncap crash test.
But I would never buy one, it's like driving around in a garbage can. You can get the same MPG in a bigger more comfortable and safer diesel car.

Weeeeelll...I will admit to looking at a DTR for sale recently. Everyone knows that DTRs get better gas mileage. ;)

Just another reason why I dont mind paying a little extra for gas. Its a small price to pay when you look at the bigger picture. I wish more people would make safety their number one priority instead of economy.

I love these threads where some ACTUALLY feel more safe just because we spend tons more in gas money.
Most cars have their weak spots in certain crashes.
Here we have our SUPER SAFE Panthers in much more common crashes than a head on with another vehicle at 40 MPH.
Our cars ONLY catch fire when hit for the year when a loser doesn't notice that we've stopped and don't even get me started on how SAFE the Panthers are in side impacts. Without the Air Bags, they are considered one of the worst tested.
We spend the EXTRA money on gas so we MUST be more safe, Duh!

This is true.... I worked for an auto recycler, and we would not touch the electrical parts of the hybrids..... They are too hazardous and not worth it.
