View Full Version : Are 04 marauders faster than 03 marauders

The reason I ask is because I have a 2003 blue with a zack tune and a jlt cai and I raced a 04 dtr with just a k&n cai and he also had 22" rims. We went from 0-80 and at the end I was only a nose ahead of him and I was thinikin I should have killed em.

And in the past when I had a 04 dtr stock and this same guy had a 03 black and I was beating him everytime we raced. So are the 04s quicker or what:confused::confused::confu sed:

IMHO. Stock for Stock the '03 and '04 MM are pretty evenly matched .... on average. However, there may be some differences car to car.

In October 2003, I had a chance to go head-to-head with Mike Poore at Mason Dixon Dragway. That was an '03 Blue against an '04 Silver. I got the jump on him at the light and he hung right on my right rear quarter panel for the entire trip down the 1320. I could hear him off to my right and he was pulling ever so slightly -- but not enough to get even by the line. There's a video of that "race" around here somewhere.

FatBastid's '03 Black was cutting 14.8 and 14.9 all night and was several tenths faster than either of us. Or course, he was toting a little less weight than me and Mike. ;)

Car for car, without modifications, the '04 was reported to be a better car. I have first hand information because at Marauderville III, when Steve Babcock asked me which Marauder was mine, I pointed to the the '04 SB and said, "That one, it's a December build, '04". His reply was: "Oh, you got one of the good ones".

There are well documented differences between, between the '03A & B, mostly having to do with decontment, in other threads; but the big thing was the changeover to the more robust transmission in the '04's. Ford never discussed any "tweaking" to the programming, so far as I know; but for Steve to have made that comment, who knows. :dunno:.

Quick reference: 03 300B is essentially a 04 300A which is different from 03 300A.

Silver Marauder are faster. You see, the silver paint reflects the sun and therefore - heat. We all know that heat expands metal. That larger metal creates more wind resistance due to the larger area of coefficient drag and thus I am full of crap again. D'oh!

Listen, if you're going to spend the big bucks on an Flux Capacitor

http://www.thingamababy.com/photos/uncategorized/2007/06/02/fluxcapacitor.jpg

you really want to shell out a little extra cash for the Mr. Fusion retro-fit. This is the only way this mod makes sense, IMHO.

http://paulbuckley14059.files.wordpre ss.com/2009/03/mr-fusion.jpeg

Hard to get dyno'd though, very few tuners have the capacity to measure RWHP in jiga-units.

Also, good luck on finding sticky tires to grip when you really mash it, I hear low-end torque with this set up is big-time wicked.

I think I saw a Turbinator on Ebay. Had 52 bids with a current price of $3.84. I also saw the Gonkulator on Craigslist. Asking $69.69 obo. The Gonkulator is definately the mod of the year. Way better thank the Flex Compasitor and decades ahead of the Turbinator. But I saw on the internet that the Wonkanator by Wonka Industries is going to be the new rage. Just ask the Umpalators

There was a guy cruising Woodward during MV III/WDC that had a DeLorean with the whole Flux Capacitor set up in it --- just like BTTF. But I don't think that he was getting the full 1.21 gigawatts without a dyno tune. ;)

I remember him saying that Mike, Cause I asked him after that, mine was 10/03 build, and he said "Your Fine Too!"
He went on to say, the transmission refinements were mostly durability and tuning related.
This make sense to me, because we have several different computer catch codes.
I think there are three different codes for 2003 and two for 2004.
Mine is mav2

I can pull up a 2003 tune and a 2004 tune and compare them side by side and the only difference will be the # of knock sensors and # of holes for the OSS sensor.

So yes, I disagree with the project manager.

04's are faster. Higher stall torque converter. I'm surprised no one mentioned this. That's a fact.

Bradley G
04-19-2009, 01:01 AM
Then how come my MAV2 2004 Marauder would not run or shift properly with a earlier 2003 catch code tune?
And what about Traction Control? You say "YOUR tune: is all transmission changes and it redefines the Marauder.
Now you are saying 03 &04;s are exactly the same peformance wise?
Have you ever owned a stock 2004 Marauder?
Gime a break

Let's not clutter up this thread with facts and scientific evidence. :D I've seen the Flex Compasitors, Turbinators, and Glonkulators. I went with a Twin Screw Viborator. Had to take it out though, I my passengers kept screaming at me, more to the left, more to the right, yes! yes! yes! I think it was messing with my GPS. Back to stock again but driving alone a lot now. The good news is I picked up speed without the extra weight in the passenger seat.

Oh yeah, black 04's are faster because they are stealthier. We have that low drag paint. It's so thin that after a couple of washings, it just fades right off to the stealthy gray primer (if you have any) or like mine, to bare metal.

300A's are the fastest... they de-tuned them to save on the cost of the traction control... they also had so much power that a launch of a 300A was known to snap axles because of the raw power produced! SEE BELOW!
