View Full Version : $800 Lincoln Mark III Survivor my bro got on Craigslist

I have been having some really really good luck on craiglist recently w/ people dumping cars and parts.
Look what me and my brother picked up for $800. This is a true survivor car and is in competely unmolested condition. The previous owner paid to ship it from California and then stored it and never drove it. This car has NO rust anywhere. The only issue w/ the body is a big dent in the pass. door, that I can pull and repair without having to replace the door.
1971 Lincoln Continental Mark III. 10:1 compression original 460 V8, 365 horsepower. Power seats, power windows, power locks, tilt. 9" posi rear.
This is the most over built piece of American engineering from the 70s that I have ever seen. The windshield wipers are HYDRAULIC and run off of the power steering pump. It has miles of vac hose underhood. The interior is black leather and is in very good condition.
The car runs and drives and came with a brand new set of Toyo tires on it.

Thanks! I had a 72 T bird before and loved that car. This car is very much reminiscent of it, but even more highly optioned

Thanks guys! Silver, I don't do 4 doors in the old stuff. This was just a total lucky find. The older guy selling it did not post pictures in the ad and he was very hard to get ahold of. It took several weeks of emailing before he even responded that he still had the car. The extreme difficulty in getting to see the car paid off because it probably scared anyone else off. Plus his list price ($1000) made it seem like the car was going to be a total POS. We were shocked when he rolled the door up on his storage unit. The car had been in storage ever since it came in from CA. He never drove the car because it "got really smokey inside". It turned out that one of climate control electric switches was frying itself, causing the magic smoke to escape.

Nice find Steve!
That is a great deal on the Lincoln.

That is a great car, especially with the "economizer" 460 Big Block option...:P

You got me beat....
O's Fan Rich put me onto an '89 LTD/Crown Vic up in Pennsylvania.
I went up this past Saturday and bought it for $900.00.
It is fully optioned and has the trusty 5.0 fuelie/automatic.
It runs great. I'll post up some pictures when it stops raining.
I'm going to drive it as a daily beater so I can take the Marauder's rear axle out and get the 3.90 gears/TrueTrac diff/TCE brakes done!
Best thing is that it is 20 years old , so I can register it as 'Historic' in Maryland.
$51.00 registration for 2 years and NO vehicle inspection....

BTW: Does anyones know if the OEM 16x7" 'BBS style' wheels from my wrecked '95 Grand Marquis will fit on the '89 CV?

Thank you for the offer, I appreciate it.
But...I don't want to mess with it.
I'm going to have the axle tubes welded and then have a local shop set up the rear gears/differential.
I'll do the brakes before I re-install the axle.

Wow that's a sweet deal too. I need to find a good antique beater car.
How will you get a tune for the 3.90 RAR that's 'non-standard'

Stranger in the Black Sedan

I have an unlocked tune and can put any gear ratio I want into SCT Extreme tune and update my tuner with it, other people can't do this?

I'm going to get it re-tuned on the dyno anyway because it is starting to ping when it hits second gear @ WOT. (The A/F ratio is running a little lean)
I will have that and the 3.90 gear ratio addressed at the same time on the dyno.
Yep, the 3.90 gear is no problem with the SCT tuners.

Let me know how you like the 3.90s, I am going to do either 3.90s or 4.10s in the near future.

Yes they will

Sweet!

I need to update the 'Red Lounge Lizard' with some better looking wheels.
I just gave it a wash & wax last night.
It doesn't look too bad for a $900 car.
(Thanks for the heads up Rich!)

5.0L runs great and it rides like a comfy living room sofa...LOL!
Only bad thing is the A/C is not working.
No R12 left, but the compressor spins by hand.
I put on the R134 conversion fittings/ports and charged it with R134...but the selenoid is not pulling in to engage the compressor....:dunno:

you can't just charge the system, you need to have it vacuumed down first

Yeah...:(.....I know...but I don't want to double the price of the car to get the A/C running...:o

BTW: I want to check out that Lincoln 460 V8...maybe bring it to the Safford Lincoln Mercury show?

the Mark is in Connecticut so that ain't gonna happen. It has some minor bugs to get worked out before we'd drive it that far (tilt column does not want to stay locked when you are driving, that's a fun one)

Just having a garage vac the system down, without doing any other work, won't cost much.

The Mark III's were nice,my old boss had one back in the mid 70's and I drove it quite a bit.It had TORQUE! The bad part was it handled like the Queen Mary and cornered on it's door handles, but it sure rode nice if you afford the gas.
