Since i like to mash the gas a tad bit.... and feel like evryone is tryin to race me. Im lookin into gettin a radar detector/scanner... the prices on these things range from $40 to $400... im not rich or anything of that sort. Does anyone know of a DECENT detector/scanner in the price range of $150-$200?.......

And also i didnt realize how handy the trunk organizer was when i had one. I see the price of these things are upwards of $300+ online. is there any site that i can find one of these things without having to give up almost half a stack?....

Gracias'

The least expensive ones work fine.....NONE of them protect you......they only warn you there is surveillance nearby OR that you've just been had!!!:shake: When mine goes off I become more alert....GOOD thing!!

If you are bustin' down the highway 10-15 MPH over......9 time out of 10 they will get you before you can respond and slow down.....don't ask me how I know!!:shake:

Don't waste your money on a $400 detector!!

Can't help ya on the organizer!!:shake:

I love my V1, it may not protect you 100% but it has much less false alarms than the cheap ones. If there are a lot of false alarms you start to just ignore it. Kind of expensive though. $300 organizer or $300 detector?

I found this one to be desent in price and performance. It may not be 100% but it does help to remind you to respect the speed limit.

I've been at the business end of a radar gun for quite some time, the problem is KA band, it is so wide that most detectors will scan thru it to find a source and this takes time. Most moving radar these days uses this band, like the Stalker Dual, its a 5k dollar radar set with DSP and I had a 99% conviction rate with it.

Lidar is another challenge, to get a good fix on lidar, the detector must be at the top of the window.

I can tell you that the Valentine 1 is by far the best out there, I've stopped people with every other brand and never one of those, in testing the unit, it responds rather quickly to any radar out there, does front and back and worth the money.

But remember that no radar detector is faster than the speed of light, which radar and lidar are at an advantage.

I can nail anyone with any detector with a cheapo Tomcat radar gun, its all in the trigger finger. If you wait to pull the trigger when the car is in your zone, they are dead no matter how much they spend..

Ive seen Cobra detectors every where, they seem like a real popular brand.. they average between 100 and 200. i'll probably grab one of those.

and to answer your question "FordNut" i was talkin about the trunk organizer. i see them selling for over 300 dollars on a few sites, only thing that would b more expensive is trying to go to the dealership...

Yep, gotta hope they shoot somebody else, then the V1 will save me. If they wait 'til they see me or if there's nobody else out there, I'm got.

Yep, most of the organizers I've seen for sale are around $300. About the same price as a V1.

Cobra, walmart, $80.00. Mine is now seven or so years old and has saved my rear more than i can count! And its better than having nothing.

If your local coppers have lazer speed detecters, your screwed no matter what! Cause its instant and you cant predict or pick up signals until hes already got you.

BTW, nobody around here will race me...They get spooked by the cop car looks I think.

Not true. A V1 will pickup the signal if another car ahead of you is being shot with laser. But just in case I've got the Blinder too.

I wish radar detectors were legal in VA

+1 on the Valentine 1.

No detector will stop you from getting a ticket. The V1 will however give you enough advanced warning when radar is being used.

Never, ever be the "leader of the pack" Let someone else be the rabbit and get nabbed by the radar.

Thanks for the info, I just ordered one. I had been contemplating between the V1 and the Passport 9500ix (for a $100 more), but based on your "real-life" report, I went with the V1.

I have the Escort 8500 and it works very well....I have had it go off over a mile from the source....problem is hills...no radar detector will see thru hills....and instant on is what most of the Troopers use around here....so that is another issue....with that said, my 8500 has saved my butt many times. I like it and it is much better than my Whistler that I had and I loved that thing. I still have it, but it is sitting in my tool box. It has LIDAR protection too an I mount it at the top of my windshield next to my rearview mirror to give it the best chance of working for me. I too work on the business end of a radar unit...I found out that about 90 percent of people I have stopped dont have a radar detector.

Ive got a Beltronics STI Driver here and i must say it works very well and it is undetectable to radar detector detectors , a must have if you live in the Great White North where they are illigal to have. While this unit has saved me many times over its only as good as knowing how to use it when it gives a warning. P.S You cant beat the laser when you hear the warning its just letting you know that your about to get a ticket if your speeding. I travel the same roads most of the time so you get to know when a warning signal should not be there. This unit cost me around $500 but worth every cad cent lol

good luck. the FHP here has a new way of nabbing people. some new sort of system they run. its able to scan you then shut down so the radar bands arent picked up so by the time it reads you, youre pretty much caught. some warn you some dont

The others are simply "toys" with blinking lights....V1 is the way to go.....
