2 things:

1) does everyone have that little scuff mark on the top of the body by the drivers door? in ennis i noticed that a few cars i looked at had it.( i showed it to petrograde so back me up on this :D )

its a 1 inch long scuff mark on the body of the car where the top of the drivers door meets it. there is a similar mark on the door itself. this is not just a sratch but a big white 'omg i fear that rusting' mark.

2) i noticed a big greasy thumb print on my speedometer just below the 100mph mark. i saw that 2306's car had the same. do they all have that? its easier to notice at night

Wow, that's pretty bad. I noticed the front doors hit the body when my car was new. I made them adjust the front doors before I would buy the car. This is a known issue for panther platform cars leaving the factory. Aparently they can't seem to allign the doors at St. Thomas. I would think that this would be a waranity covered repair. Meaning the fixing of the paint.

I do not have that on any of my doors. :)

No apparent damage on mine in this locale. Do have a "touch-up"on roof about 3" inboard of sill line however.

The 04's are shipped with a plastic 'bumper' in that spot to prevent it from happening.

I don't recall having seen that mark on my car (I'll check when I go for my daily 'visit' tomorrow). However, my driver's door is just a tad tougher to close on the first attempt than the others... ie. I sometimes have to try twice if I'm limp-wristed with my closing attempt. I've thought about having the door adjusted but now I'm having second thoughts.... with my luck I'd have to put the car on a frame alignment rack by the time we got to the root cause. ;)

So I think I'll live with the door as is, and avoid any scuff marks.

My '02 LX Sport (built 12/4/01) has the scuff too... but to be honest, I probably would never have noticed it if you hadn't pointed it out.

Just a FYI do not use any ammonia base product on plexiglass as it will cloud the plexiglass over time...............

Zack, shipped with as in a temporary bumper for shipping only, or is it something that's been added?

I have the same area scuff on my 03 LX Sport...thought it was just poor alignment on my door, but DAMN, I think a majority of these cars have the same problem...gonna point it out to my SM...thanks again MM.NET..you come thru again...:D :D

Wow, I was just talking to MAD-3R and his Wife last week on these same issues concerning scuffmarks. My driver’s side door has the same markings as depicted on the photos. The dealer could not figure out the problem and referred me to a body shop for warrenty repairs.

Racerx88

I've got it too. I just attributed it to the door closing hard, and momentarily compressing the weatherstripping, alllowing the door to touch the body, leaving that little rub spot. I've got it on both front doors.

I saw Merc's and thought it might be due to speed bumps, but the door closing sounds like it might be also... I don't slam car doors, and cring when anyone does.

Those black edge guards might be something to look into instaslling at the top of the doors.

I think what Zack is explaining is that the dash cluster is rather easy to remove and clean. All you need is the time and patience to uncsrew everything. The only "special" tool you need, are the FMC "forks" to pull the radio, about 5 bucks a set at any auto parts store. The dash cluster can be pulled out, and the clear plastic lense removed for cleaning inside. Takes about an hour, and it demystifies how the dash assembly is constructed. It's all modular plug-in to the wiring harness.

Same problem, and the same place as everyone else. I have an appointment tomorrow to have it looked at. Will keep everyone posted as to what I find out. I thought I was the only one with this problem. I'm glad we all stick together.

Same white mark above the driver's door on mine too. Seems to be getting a bit longer over time. I guess another service visit is in order soon, before it starts to rust....

about the Radio removal tool.
If you have a "CarToys" in town, check with them. They sell "Blauplunkt" stereos, and every one comes with a set of those tools. They end up with stacks of the tools, and often will just give them away

Mine came with the identical scuffs over the driver door. Took care of it on my first service visit (had to leave it overnite for the paint to dry they loaned me 04 Explorer). I also asked them to check the door for being hard to open. It is still hard to open but the hinge creaks really bad now.

No scuff mark. No too sure about the finger print thing. I can see between 100 and 120 and kinda swoosh of light that goes between them when the interior lights are on. Thing is, it almost disappears when you lean back in the seat. So, I'm thinking that's just some sort of a reflection, I dunno...

Sou; hopefully they gave you a three door, otherwise, you were probably stuck with a four door like mine. I looked at unbolting the exhaust, but didn't have the car long enoph to do so. Anyway... go find you some black top and take a buddy to dump bleach on the passenger front tire. Don't forget to record! Oh, and e-brake slides are fun too... :D

I have the same blem on my speedometer lense. My wife saw it first from the passenger side. The dealer ordered a new speedo but I would'nt let them replace it because I was more worried as to a tech scratching or messing my Marauder up!But Zack on the other hand I would trust.

Marsha

Hey I have that too - what is the solution? Do we all run to the dealer's and have them paint it or will touch up due!
Thanks,
Marsha:confused:

just got in from work, but a quick update, they replaced my hinges and used touch up on the marks. Morro I'll post the full tech write up. If i see wear there again dont know what to do then.

I can't believe I don't have the scuff mark or the speedo blemish. I did notice a new paint chip from driving through all the construction garbage I have to everyday. I'll get my bottle of touch up and take care of it. I'll also buff the scuff mark I put on my rear door from hitting the wall of the garage and the other one where I got too close to the car with my cell phone on my belt
