View Full Version : Naakes to be outlawed in Nova Scotia

Well, our brilliant government has struck again. The new inspection laws will disallow the installation of any suspension system not supplied by the OE manufacturer. So, no Naakes for the MM. No lifts for trucks, no drops for imports, not HD kits for pickups and work trucks. Oh, and NO grandfather clause. So, just imagine how many thousands of vehicles will be sidelined until they spend possibly thousands of dollars to revert their vehicles back to OE spec!
Just how dumb is the government of Nova Scotia?
This dumb!

What's the logic behind this?

Well, the logic (if you are a dealer) is that you get a TON of business. Only factory suspensions will be legal, so only Ford supplied lift or lowering kits will be legal (if you own a Ford), Honda kits for Honda's and so on.
I suspect it was a case of dealerships hoodwinking really stupid politicians (you know, the guys who took poly-sci in university, partied their asses off, and then came out qualified to be nothing more intelligent than a politician).

Same reason you cant do motor swaps in Australia...
Im not to sure though

In Australia, if you buy the right car you don't NEED to do a swap. They get some really awesome powerplants down under compared to us. Plus, they can get just about everything with a manual...

I think, that every state has a law on the books about suspension modification. I also think it's just a scapegoat, if nothing else can be found. Some suspension modifications are better than stock geometry, some are not. Consider our control arms, (rear), and after market, for an example of better, and the outriggers on a 4X4., for an example of worse.

How could they pass this?

How would they find out? Is there some type of mandatory yearly inspection? Maybe you can disguise these performance items and paint them flat black in attempt to disguise them.

I doubt if it's retroactive.

i say its time for a revolution against the governments!! mandating saftey equipment is one thing but improving your car to the point where it handles better and is safer and them saying you cant do that. what the hell is that all about.why not just change the "round" wheel and make it square again. that would keep speeds down and accident rates to near zero.

He said there was NO grandfather clause, so it would in fact be retroactive.
It's like when certain belt-fed weapons were outlawed, there was no grandfather clause. They just said "Give them to us now." No financial compensation or anything.
Some of us said no...and have land, a shovel, and airtight containers .

Just how dumb is the government of Nova Scotia?
That's like asking (of any politician) how wet is water?
Quebec just outlawed Right hand drive cars (no new registrations for 6 months), so there is some competition for most retarded lawmaker award.

You can't turn right on red in Quebec, either. However, having had to drive there, I can see why. Old man with a hat in a K-Car wagon has nothing on Montreal drivers.
I should send this forum link to my MLA so she can see just how inept half the continent thinks this is.
Oh, and by the way: We have bi-anual safety inspections here. This year they just repealed the portion of the inspection that requires removal of all four wheels for brake inspections. Guys were getting failed because lines had rust on them. Not rusted out, just rust coated!
My GF was told that her pads had less than 5mm left on them and that the pads and rotors both had to be changed to the tune of $650.00. I told here to bring the car home and I'd have a look. Took the wheels off and found closer to a full cm of pad on ALL braking surfaces and rotors that were almost at full spec width. And these LIES came from a Ford dealership!
I kept the pads and plan on going back with them and her work order and telling the service manager that my next stop is the newspaper and the one after that is my MLA's office. Burns me!
As for the suspension, I'm going to get a friend to make FRP stickers that I can stick on the Naakes (because I AM getting Naakes - for spite more than anything now) for inspection purposes.
Man, government types are dumb, dumb, dumb!

:bs: I kind of thought that the inspectors would take advantage of a) the law and b) unsuspecting car-illiterate types. Asses. I wonder who was passing out the brown envelopes full of cash at that party convention.

A very good idea. Legislating what you do with your own personal property has to be right up there in the lower end of the bright idea spectrum. Didn't you guys just elect a Conservative government?
Master
05-04-2009, 06:23 PM
No, we've had a conservative government for the past 10 years. Three years ago we RE-elected a conservative government. Its leader, Rodney Mac-something-or-other, is an idiot and a disgrace to Cape Bretoners. I am ashamed to come from the same island as that arrogant moron. Thank God this is Canada and I can say that my leader is an idiot without getting myself banned from the stage!
Finally, today, they have lost a confidence vote and we'll be going to the polls. Anything but these guys and, in my opinion, anything but the Liberals, too. They are the ones that gave Nova Scotia Canada's ONLY toll section of the Trans Canada highway. What a legacy, eh? Not only that, but they gave control of it, as well as the profits, to an American company. Then, to top it all off, they legislated that trucks can't use the old Trans Canada (read, already paid for by fuel tax dollars) and have to use the American Toll section regardless of how often or how much the prices get jacked. In my mind, it smacks of treason and the prick who did it is, unfortunately, already dead. Really, though. Sell a Canadian roadway to Americans, then charge Canadians to use it, and charge them under the motor vehicle act if they try to use the non-toll road. Americans would already have lynched someone if they'd tried that crap. Just because John Savage was too much of a ***** to take on the Feds to get back the fuel tax dollars Nova Scotians already paid for road improvement (Nova Scotians get the LEAST Federal funding for highways per fuel tax dollars spent of any Province in Canada), but was more than tough enough to ram a toll highway through on his own constituants. Yeah, a real tough guy. Dig him up, burn him, and then burry him under his own toll highway. Treason is about all I can think of to describe that piece of crap politician.
So, who do I vote for? Doesn't leave much choice.
Interestingly, my MLA happens to be NDP. So, if she can get off her political butt and fix this crap with the MVI (motor vehicle inspection for you Yanks) then I just might vote for her in this upcoming election.
Rant done.
For now...

Tell us what you really think, Skipper. :) Your conservatives sound more like the Mulroney Conservatives, not the Joe Who? Conservatives. We abandoned Mulroney to the wolves because he implemented a tax on us.
Come out west! No provincial taxes, no sales taxes, no vehicle inspections. And conservatives who would rather cut civil servants pay than raise taxes. The only added tax is the aforementioned GST and we still spit when we hear Mulroney's name.

Just tired of cowardly politicians who would rather take advantage of those who elected them in favour of big business's interests. Seems like this is the style of all politicians except Danny Williams. Wish we had a guy like him over here. Bright, tough as nails, legally expert, irrefutably patriotic and beholden to no-one because he is independently wealthy. Makes for a deadly leader of whom other politicians should be very afraid.
