ok as mentioned from the last post http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=53087

..i used the White Lith. Grease on my old pulley until i got my new one and it worked. NOW i have the new pulley and its still making noise. On a cold start in idle the pulley is making noise, then when the car warms up its gone on idle but when i accelerate or get on it the noise is back. Again this is with the new tensionser pulley. What else could it be? Could the tensioner arm be bad? ...damn panthers are difficult

Idler pulley. You wouldnt be able to replicate the noise by turning it by hand.

can you hear it from inside the car when running around town?

yes when i accelerate or getting on it i can. and usually it squeals louder right before it shifts

then its definitely a belt and/or pully issue

Glockafella

defective bearings or pump could be leaking onto belt or pulleys

i have another belt i can put on which is brand new but as far as pulley if i changed it, it should correct the issue. especially if there is a new belt AND pulleys but it didnt.

I have exactly the same problem. It started a month or so ago and is driving me bonkers. I have replaced the tensioner, both idler pulley bearings, and belt. I have a 1 year old water pump so I have been thinking about the Alt. When you find it let me (us) know. I will watch this tread.

Got an extra toothbrush?

start your car, let the bristles of the toothbrush ride in the groves of the belt, see if your getting any liquid or grease come off onto the toothbrush, if you are, is it a strange color?

I'll look into that but im sure nothing is leaking i just took apart everything and there is no leaks. flushed the coolant yesterday, it never runs hot. hoses are in great shape were replaced about 5months ago. but I'll remove my belt and pulleys. clean the motor again of any dirt or what not then put it all back and see what it does then.

...it all started with a tune :D

but seriously it was making the noise before anything but i sprayed it here n there when it made noise to quiet it, but since then there has been new pulleys and belt. didn't do the tensioner itself yet

New Ford or Dayco tensioner and Goodyear Gatorback belt should fix the problem.

Took off all of the pulleys cleaned them free of any dirt etc.. Bought a new DAYCO tensioner pulley FORD tensioner and Gatorback belt and it did the job!
-no more noise
-car pulls a little harder
-at idle it runs smoother
-tad bit of a crisper throttle response

...i guess they sold me all of the crap the first time :censor: bastards

sorry...I am unbelievably bored at work today....:help:

I actually had the same problem with the noise. Replaced idler pulley, belt tensioner and the belt all at once and it still made a noise, just not as pronounced. Went away after a week or two and haven't heard it since. (1 yr ago) Im guessing the parts need to "wear in"?
