I will be posting my Mustang on Ebay this weekend. I thought I'd post it here too, just in case anyone is interested.
Up for sale is this breathtaking 1973 Mustang Convertible. It was purchased in March of 2007 from an early 1970’s Mustang specialist who had just completed a year-long rotisserie restoration. The mileage, at the time of purchase, was 1,001 miles (odometer set to 0 miles after rebuild of engine). The mileage is currently 2,540 miles. This amount will increase a bit as it will continue to be driven to local cruise-ins and shows during the selling process. This Mustang is a beauty and it’s an absolute joy to drive! It will, without a doubt, exceed your expectations!
Restoration Details:
During the restoration, the car was completely dismantled and every single nut, bolt, and bracket was either re-plated or refinished using state of the art materials. The body was soda blasted and received a coat of acid-etch primer followed by three coats of epoxy primer that were wet sanded to a glass-like finish. It then received a beautiful basecoat/clearcoat paint job using top-of-the-line DuPont Chromobase paint. All work was done by seasoned professionals. The body is rust free and has never been wrecked.
Nearly everything on this car is either new or reconditioned to better-than-new condition. The bumpers and honeycomb grills and moldings were new. The foglamps, turn signal lamps, side markers, bezels, front and rear valances, NASA hood, functional Ram Air, door handles, taillight assemblies, windshield, and all seals and weather-strips were new. The convertible top was new and even has a glass rear window. All of the stainless trim was professionally polished to a mirror shine. The top boot moldings and header moldings were re-chromed. Front and rear spoilers were added along with a pop-open gas cap to add to the sporty appearance.
The trunk is detailed with custom panels and carpeting throughout. The engine compartment is detailed with correct belts, hoses, and hardware. The interior was completely redone with new seat covers, new seatbuns, new door panels and a new dashpad. Extra sound deadening material by Dynamat was applied all over the car, including the floors and rear quarter panels, to quiet the ride.
Air conditioning components were added during the restoration. This car did not originally have air conditioning. The correct air conditioning components were installed and they were installed to factory specifications. The system blows ice-cold.
The entire brake system was rebuilt using stainless steel lines, a new power booster, a new master cylinder, a new proportioning valve, and new custom gold iridite plated drilled and slotted rotors. The dust shields and backing plates were coated in Eastwood's gold-cad paint.
Many NOS (New Old Stock) parts were used, including an NOS AM/FM radio, A/C compressor, and sun visor brackets, to name a few. All of the steering and suspension components were replaced with the best available, and all of these parts were show-detailed prior to installation. All of the bearings and seals were replaced, and this car drives like a dream! It tracks straight without the usual bumps and rattles common with a 35 year old car. The wheels and tires were new. The U-joints were new.
The original 351 Cleveland engine was rebuilt using a mild cam and flattop pistons to bump the compression up to 9.5 to 1. A new Holley 4-barrel carb and Edelbrock intake were added to increase performance. The water pump, voltage regulator, fuel pump, starter, and alternator were new. The gas tank, fuel lines, and sending unit were new. The original FMX transmission was rebuilt to factory specs. A custom tuned welded dual exhaust system was fabricated using long tube headers, 2 1/2 inch aluminized pipes with a crossover pipe, flow master mufflers, and chrome tips exiting through cutouts in the rear valance. Horsepower is estimated to be in the 305-310 range.
This car was originally Medium Aqua, which was a color unique to 1973. It was paired with a white top and interior. The restorer chose, however, to paint the car a much more desirable color - Grabber Blue. True to its name, it really grabs your attention! The restorer also opted for the 71/72 front end, as it looks better and saves about 100 pounds in weight. Mach 1 logos and stripes were added as part of the restoration. This is not a true Mach 1.
