A buddy of mine and great guy all around, David Starr, who runs well in the NASCAR Truck Series is running the #06 right now in the Shootout. He started near the back so he is very doubtful to pull of a top 2 finish and make it to the Million dollar run but hey, he's got a shot!

I have some friends who set on the S/F line 5 rows up. been there 20 yrs.

It's just a sweet gig, no points for this one, it's a balls-out all or nothing race for major cash. The shootout right now only allows the first and second place finisher into the money race later tonight.

David moved up a few spots but he clearly has no shot at making the Allstar race later.

When I say he's a buddy of mine I mean I know him and he knows me and my family. I rode with him at Team Texas High Performance Driving School at Texas Motor Speedway about 5 years ago and have kept in touch ever since. He is the nicest, most down to earth guy who just happens to drive a NASCAR truck for a living. You would never know he's a race driver just hanging out with him. I can't tell you how cool it's been on many occasions when he just grabbed one of my kids and sat them in his lap an shot the breeze with us at different events.

He's set to run in the 600 in a week or two, can't recall. He has no real aspiration to be a CUP driver, he is a top performer in the Truck series and likes that gig as he should. He had a run at a top 5 finish last night and ended up 7th. Hope he at least finishes the series in the top 5 this year. Watch for him in the 600 and every truck race. Personally, the truck series is far more exciting than Nationwide or Cup, look at last night's race...incredible amounts of paint swapping and tire marks on the side of the trucks and the races are only a couple of hours, not all day.

GO DAVID!!!

You guys would laugh your butts off if you heard the video footage when we pulled into the pits after my ride with David, can't post it though, a tad rough for this tasteful community if you get my drift. Turning left at 165 MPH doesn't make sense...and I communicated that extremely effectively :)

Sam Hornish and Jamie McMurray are in...great job by Jamie coming from 30th in 40 laps to get into the BIG money show.

Yeah!..is great fun.....I'm watching it at my front seat --right up front...at home-on TV --of course...-about 35 miles away---you kidding me....the only place to watch it.....been to that trace enough.......now it's fun at home--give it to the out of town'ers.......and speed channel HQ is across street from where I work to-....cool!

I hear ya Marauderman, I mainly only go to the truck races anymore due to the traffic/crowds and even then if I don't have pit passes I'll stick to the suite for the service, view(s) and AC! My couch has an awesome view~!

Update, young-gun Mark Martin was running 4th. Stinkball Kyle Busch leading, can't stand that guy, hope he catches a wall like he sent a few guys into last night.

kenseth is looking to do that right now.

Lap 3 of the second set of 20, Hornish lost grip, slid up the track and hooked Biffle, both pretty hard into the wall. I like Biffle. Damn, Biff got $75K for 25th pace?! Wow!

It'd be cool if Kurt took Kyle out like Kyle did his bro a few years ago.

It would be cool if anyone took both of them out.

dpotter

Gordon leading at the last break. It's all or nothin' now, difference between 1st and 1st loser is $800K! That's right, $1MM for #1 and a measly $200K (I think) for 2nd.

It will be a crazy 10 lap bash now!

Trash, you're cracking me up bad! Maybe Karma will work her magic.

I love how Dale was just hanging out on the wall while everyone else sat in their cars sweatin' their butts off.

Strap it on now, here we go.

DAMN, Johnson went totally sideways on the restart and caught it, that's driving! Slight tap from the 11 car sent him sideways, AWESOME skills from JJ. This is the best of NASCAR!

If you're not watching SPEEDTV by now you're missing the best NASCAR has to offer, barring the Truck series.

Here we go.

Gordon crashed racing Kyle BS hard on the 3rd lap of the last 10 series. Gordon tapped POS Busch before he crashed. Hopefully POS Busch was damaged enough to take him out of contention but it doesn't look like it.

POS Busch is leading unfortunately but it looks like Newman, even though he's got damage, can take him. This will be a WILD finish. I hope Newman takes it and takes that bastage POS Busch out in the process, he almost granted my wish a moment ago.

Man, NASCAR doesn't get any better than this, wel....except the truck series :)

Tony S. is lurking.... so is D Jr.

dpotter
05-16-2009, 07:54 PM
As much as I can't stand that kid (POS Busch), for way too many good reasons, he can drive.

dpotter
05-16-2009, 07:56 PM
Trash, I really would be THRILLED to see Dale take it of anyone left on the track. Tony can drive the wheels off anything!

We shall see. Please Karma...take that bastage Kyle out.

bush is out of contention, looks good for Tony, caution.

dpotter
05-16-2009, 08:00 PM
Caution again for a dang keeenex on the track, 5 to go, Karma and Kenseth helped me out there.... Kenseth leads, Smoke was ON FIRE...he may win this, then POS Busch is in 3rd.

Tony deserved it, great, clean, super-fast race for him.

Stewart, Kenseth, POS Busch, Hamlin, Edwards, Young-Gun Martin, Kyle Busch. Logano got a top 10, high five to the rookie.

Congrats to Carl on that comeback.

What a race.

1stMerc, that was a STUNNING, Powerful, I OWN YOU, pass for the win! LOVED it.

Man, Tony seriously can drive anything to the checkered flag. He's a badass driver...um, and now, owner driver winner!

dpotter
05-16-2009, 08:16 PM
I think that was his 10th or 11th start in this race, finally he got the win, and as an owner, awesome.

He was working the heck out of that line. Mat, just didn't have anything for him after the pass. Whew, the neighbors probably think i'm crazy, i was hollering so loud.

My wife and kids think I am crazy, I don't care what the neighbors think! You're right though man, he passed Matt like he was NA and Tony had a Trilogy!

Look for my buddy David Starr next week in the 600, I'm stoked, hope he does well, he's just a genuinely great guy.

AND, look for David every truck series race in the #24 Zachry truck, he's a contender in every race and the trucks are so different, so much more interesting to watch IMHO.

Ive been a Wood Brothers fan since the late 60's (so I didnt root for anybody in particular) but I do like the guys who have raced in more than one type of car like Stewart, Montoya, ect...

That crash that Mike Skinner had was the worst truck series crash i had ever seen. That pretty scary. I'll looking for your buddy.

Next weekends going to be great with the Coca Cola 600 and Indy 500 and my 52nd birthday on the same day. How cool is that.

Jim, I've been a fan of racing since I was in diapers, I just neglected to post up in your earlier thread, we will chat at the Cooper show, looking forward to talking to you and hopefully Maury can make it.

1stMerc, Happy dang awesome birthday, you should make sure no one bothers you :)

And yes, that was one of the nastiest wrecks I've seen since Dale Sr. passed. I was amazed, even with the HANS and safer barriers, he walked away AND was lucid in the post-crash interview, very impressed. I wish Sr. was still with us. Again, Happy B-Day! Go Danica and David Starr!

Here's a shot of me (the tall, very handsome man :) ) and my daughter when David autographed his helmet for me..which my kids like to break out and wear while watching him race on occasion.

I kid you not, if you find David at a NASCAR tuck race and he has time to chat you will be surprised if not stunned how down to earth, open and honest he is. He will literally tell you just about anything you want to know about what goes on behind the scenes just like you were brothers having a brew (or Dr. Pepper in his case). Super nice guy with his priorities right in line.
