Phil Spector has been sentenced to 19 years in jail for murder.
For those who don't know him he created the wall of sound idea for groups in the early to mid 60s. Not only that, but had a band with Duane Eddy and Sandy Nelson.
There is a lot more I can talk about on this guy, but it might get me banned. Let's just say I have a lot in common with this guy...

My band will dedicate our show to him tonight.
He should be on suicide watch 24 hours a day...

Music god?
Regardless of his contribution to music history, he's a MURDERER.
He should be put on suicide watch, just so he can't take the easy way out, and rots away in a prison cell.

He did have an incredible talent and contributed a lot to the music world it just should have been done inside of an institution so he couldn't kill someone. He's always been a nutcase personally by what came out during the trial.

He got off easy, because the girl that stabbed my uncle to death got life to 25 years, a while back.

That guy was hilarious. I really loved how, while armed, he held the Ramones hostage and made them listen to "Baby, I Love You" on repeat while drinking Manichewitz wine out of a chalice.

The only thing I remember , which I hope I am correct about is that he produced the first "Righteous Brothers" Album back in the '65 era.......like the song "You Have Lost That Loving Feeling"..........am I correct about that--......??..............anyway-always heard a lot of news reflecting his produced music info--but never saw his face--when I did-----I thought-----wow--that guy looks like a real nerd-!!.guess it takes all kinds---but --what really bugged me was --even back then....why do those who look like that make so much $$ and we are doing a real job...?

Yep...He is a mentally deranged idiot.
He once owned THE most significant Shelby Daytona Coupe (1 of 6 built) and drove it around on the streets of L.A. until he got too many speeding & noise infraction tickets.
An incredible story...

Just because he doesn't do what

That's no reason why I can't give him all my love~
Did Spector produce all their stuff? :dunno: And you're right, many of the most creative are also very troubled.:(

Dom you are young and somewhat involved in the "business" so you are forgiven for not understanding exactly how trivial in the grand the scheme of things contributions to music and "show business" in general are. Especially when you are prepared to bestow god like qualities on absolute POS like this and many others people like to think are of substance.

Yup, far as I know, and Wiki coroborates...
"The Crystals were a New York City singing group and are considered one of the defining acts of the girl group (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Girl_group) era of the first half of the 1960s (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1960s). Their 1961 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1961)—1964 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1964) chart hits — including "Uptown (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uptown)", "He's A Rebel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/He%27s_A_Rebel)", "Da Doo Ron Ron (When He Walked Me Home) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Da_Doo_Ron_Ron)" and "Then He Kissed Me (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Then_He_Kissed_Me)" — featured three successive female lead singers and were all produced by Phil Spector (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phil_Spector)...."

I'm really ready to fire my cannon at this one, but I can't because we cannot have religious threads eventhough people ask for prayers all the time.
Let's just say we all know Phil exists and all know Phil created music.
Some of the most creative people are the most troubled. Most comics have depression problems and if you listen carefully to a comics stage show they actually tell it to you... same with musicans.
You wanna talk about "the system"? That's another thread. I can go on all day on how it harms people instead of helps... but there is some good in it. I'm am sure others could too, but that would be a religious/political thread and I wouldn't wanna start one even if I had the option. I want to remain friends with everyone and somethings we just do not discuss.

Especially when you are prepared to bestow god like qualities on absolute POS like this and many others people like to think are of substance. If I may, Dom isn't the one elevating Phil Spector's status as a giant in the music business. His contribution is legendary. That is totally separate from his criminal behavior for which he is being punished, and rightly so. And your assertion that contributions made to music and show business are trivial is your personal opinion and not shared by everyone, certainly not me. I don't want to live in a world devoid of creative talent. Can't even imagine a world without music and the theatre. :)

I agree ^^^^. Totally separate. IMHO, his peak was between 1960-1965 and I grew up with his music .... the soundtrack of my youth.
"The 2003 shooting death of actress Lana Clarkson in his Alhambra, California home led to his being charged with murder in the second degree. After a mistrial, he was convicted (April 13, 2009) and sentenced (May 29, 2009) to 19 years to life."
Spector is 69 years old. He'll be at least 88 when/if he gets out ..... if he lasts that long.

Because I said "God".
BTW Sure The Boy I Love is my favorite by The Crystals.
Girl groups are probably the only American music I like from the 60s that was popular. Surf died in like 1963 and The Beach Boys just didn't really interest me after Brain Wilson quit performing with the group.
I wish I could have seen these girl groups perform while they were in their prime... or anything Phil did for that matter. I was too late for The Ramones! :mad2:

I blast this one in My Marauder every week and don't give a hoot about it. Last time I did, I was changing the oil when my roomate came up to me and asked why I don't play something new. I told him because everything that's new sucks and it's all fake unless you search for it. As I said this some girls were walking by and slowed down to hear the song... pretty cool. Then they saw me and kept walking, figures.

Too late Charlie, I already announced that it was Phil. I probably will when we play with The Misfits too, but I doubt anyone will know who I am talking about unless they saw the Ramones DVD End Of The Century.
First Lux Interior of The Cramps is outta this world, now Phil Spector. Please tell me Jerry Lee Lewis and Chuck Berry have some more years left. Fats Domino just played a show... he better play some more.
