Well, I ordered a spoiler from Torrie at Ford Parts Network and when it arrived it was not the factory spoiler like on Logan's car.
I have attached a pic below of what I received.
Torrie was great, but he heard from Ford about this and Ford has told him that the spoiler I received is the new design for the Marauder.
So I am in the market to buy a 2003 spoiler. Any ideas?

^ditto^
Looks like an '03 to me. Sure you weren't looking at CRUZTAKER's spoiler or something?

In all the pics I have seen, it looks like the spoiler curves naturally underneath, rather than having the cut-out.
Maybe the pics are deceiving and this is the same spoiler.
thoughts?

The '03 factory spoiler has the cut-out for the emblem.

That's what's confusing me, that looks exactly like my spoiler.

Looks like mine. Good idea to take a pic with someone holding it on the car.

Ya know in all the pics of the black MM's it looks like there is no cut-out.
I think I have been mistaken, however I can't explain Ford's excuse that the 2004 spoiler is different from the 2003.
Thanks for the clarification.

Hey get RF to hold it! He is good at this kind of install

I sure looks like my rear spoiler. It seems to have the cut out for the Mercury emblem. I would check FordParts.com for availability and price. I believe they are about $180.00. I order mine about 2 months ago and they must be ordered direct from the vendor. Not a good sign for future availability.

Although I would like to see it from another angle, that sure looks like the 3 '03 spoilers I've installed...

Directed, when you go to install the spoiler make sure you line the trunk with plastic. I installed my spoiler just after I bought my car back in March and I still vacuum up metal drill shavings at every carwash.

Thanks for the advice, fyre49.
Men, Great site, I search for "spoiler" & found this thread.
Never liked the spoiler pictured in the 2003 brochure.
Last nite I was paging through the 2004 brochure, & the spoiler on red Marauder caught my eye.
Got the '03 brochure out to compare, & it is DEFINATELY different than what is pictured in the '03.
Called a dealer to order the '04 spolier this morning. Told him that there was a difference, & I wanted to make sure I got the '04.
Made him aware to look for a possibility of (2) pt.#s.
I wasn't surprised when he told me that he couldn't find a spoiler listed for either year.
So here I am on this site to get the pt# for the dealer??
Does that make any sense!!
I'll search here for it, not unless you guys can post it.
Again, do you think there are (2) pt.#s ??

Don't forget the ladies!
:)
By the way: Looking at my '04 brochure, it looks like the spoiler sticks out a little more, but that may be an optical illusion.
I tried to find a pic of an '03 with a spoiler in the photo gallery at a similar angle as the brochure - no dice.
I think it's the same spolier, though.

Spoiler is the same.
I made a mistake based on the pics which looked like there was no cut-out.
I am having that spoiler (no cut out) custom made.
When it is done, I will post pics.

Directedby,
I would have lost money on that bet, after having both brochures side by side.
Sounds like you've done the homework for me.
The dealer has the (3) pt.#s listed identicle to what is listed in the FAQs section.
He states $400 for the Blue & Black, $200 for the primed.
No listing for a Silver Birch.
Is he in the ball park? Thanx.

Ron -
You ca buy the spoiler at fordparts.com painted for about $190.00 or at fordpartsnetwork.com for $200.00.
The paint job is not good. You can see sand marks below the paint and the paint is orange peel in places. It also is a one coat and does not have the clear coat like the car.
I decided to custom it the way I wanted it and have the whole thing repainted with the 2 coats. It is in the shop and we will see how it turns out.

I am looking into having the Factory spoiler installed also. FordPartsNetwork has the black painted on sale for $219.00. I have a silver MM, so the primed (at 179.99+shipping) is the only way to go.
I have a few questions for the wizards on this board:
1. I have a quote from my body shop for $175 to paint it and about $100 to install it. Is this in the ballpark?
2. What is involved in the install? There appear to be two holes in the supports that would permit holes/screws to secure the spoiler. Are these in the correct position? If so then they would only have to drill thru the surface of the deck lid itself.
3. Does anyone have the install instructions available for download/fax?
Thanks in advance.

1. Just get it painted and install it yourself. For some reason, the monkey's at body shops never read instructions. If you leave it to them, you risk holes drilled where they shouldn't be and a half assed job being done.
2. To do the install, you need a couple drill bits and a 1" hole saw. Takes maybe an hour and the kit includes VERY good instructions and templates that make it VERY easy to install correctly. This is definately NOT something that you have to have someone do for you.
Yes, you do need to drill holes in your trunk, but the templates make it idiot proof. My advice on drilling through painted material, Use a Punch to make yourself a starting point, then put masking tape over the punch indent, and THEN start drilling. That will eliminate any paint chipping and you'll get a super clean hole.

Thanks Logan!
I was just talking to my step-son, who is a tech at Honda. He is ready to start drilling. Either way I am going to order the part, review the instructions and take it from there.

Would someone just post both the 03 and the 04 on this tread so we can visually compare please!

There is only ONE spoiler offered by mercury. There is NO difference between 03/04 spoilers.
Word of warning on the spoilers, they frequently come packed crappy from the factory or have been molested.
Check your spoiler immediately on receipt for blems in the paint, especially on the tips and also make sure the install kit packet is in the box, if not, return the whole thing and ask for a new one.
I had to order FIVE kits before I got one that was good enough to install.

nslatin,
When I ordered my spoiler some of the instruction pages were missing so customer support E-mailed me a set. They are in Adobe PDF format (I think, I'm not a computer guy). I'll see if I can send them to you..
Jim
Ordered the spoiler from www.fordparts.com.
Primed, cost: 154.00. (shipping not included, don't have reciept in front of me).
Took to shop for paint quote, he is going to get back to me.
Told him I was going to install. He questioned why I would drill into the trunk.
The spoiler comes w/ double sided tape around the perimeter.
He said if it was him he would run a length of wider tape in the center, instead of drilling. Why ruin the trunk if you ever decide to remove it.
What is a reasonable cost for having (2) spoilers painted @ the same time, same color???
I think he is going to try to hit a home run off me.

I have no experience with the spoilers on Marauders, but the one on my 'stang and the '97 'bird I had were pretty substantial pieces. Don't think tape would hold them on...

If the body shop told you to 'tape' it, you might want to go to another body shop.
Personally i would not trust a place that would give that opinion.
The spoiler comes with 4 bolts for a good reason. The tape is to seal around the edge and to stop the spoiler form shifting or rattling.

Here is a pic of the aftermarket spoiler I chose. This is not my car pictured. Look in the gallery for 'cruztaker' to find pics of my car.
It was $256.87 painted and shipped to my door thru a dealer in Kansas. It is offered by 'California Dream Wing' and available thru a private source.
Anyone interested can PM me and I will provide the info.

I have had more requests for info than I can get to while my company runs me around the U.S.
I replied to many members already, and for posterity, who will search and find this thread, I will post my reply. Hopefully this helps. Rock-on!!
The spoiler I have is a ‘California Dream Wing’ model ‘1240-3L AVALON’ and I recommend obtaining it through the great folks at ‘Cover Up Inc.’ in Tonganoxie, Kansas. Craig Jackson, the owner and his daughter in law Ariel will be more than willing to help you out. The spoiler will come pre painted to match your MM color. BTW: They do all the spoiler installs for the Lincoln-Mercury dealerships in the area.
I paid $256.87 for the spoiler, painted, and delivered to my door in mint condition. I spoke with Ariel, and she is aware I passed their name on to my friends at the MM.NET.
Good luck and Happy Motoring….tell ‘em Cruztaker sent you!
