Amy and I spent a little time walking around at the veterans cemetary near us. Nothing makes you appreciate life like death.

I wondered if the many little flags were looking up with a sense of pride at the big one, as I looked down at the departed, with the same feeling.

THERE ALL TRUE Heroes in my eyes .. I have the up MOST respect for these men and women!!!!! I cant put into words how honored I am to have the freedoms I have because of all the soldiers!

I'm here in Canada and those pictures are truely touching to me. Watching one of our Canadian Troops' cascets (kids really) being escourted down Hwy.401 in the back of a hurst, really makes you appreciate your freedoms!

See? I do have a serious side. ;) I was 5 when July 4th 1976 hit, so some of my earliest memories are of everything being red, white, and blue. Drag racers and even street cars had red/white/blue paintjobs. Flags everywhere, fireworks, parades, pride and patriotism all around. Military history, bi-centennial quarters and 2 dollar bills. Uncle Sam everywhere. I think it influenced my decision to serve, no doubt. Why I associate 4th of July with Memorial Day is beyond me, maybe it's the flags. So, on Memorial Day, I have mixed emotions. I feel sad, but it reminds of 1976, when everything thru the eyes of a 5 year old was shiny and patriotic and war and death were something I clearly could not, and should not, have to understand.
