BOSTON -- It's more than many people pay for a house. An unidentified buyer paid $300,000 for a coveted private parking space in Boston's Back Bay Wednesday.

It is the most expensive parking space in the city's history, according to Debra Sordillo of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, who brokered the deal.

Sordillo said that several residents at 48 Commonwealth Ave. engaged in a bidding war for the space, driving the original asking price of $250,000.

The prime space is in a neighborhood just a block from the Public Garden, where parking spots are in short supply.

"There's only so many parking spaces in the city," Sordillo said. "And in this part, there's very few. It’s all a question of supply and demand."

While the Back Bay is one of Boston's most affluent neighborhoods, the median sale price for a house in Boston is now $365,000 according to the Web site housingtracker.net

The $300,000 parking space is outdoors and uncovered. One condominium in the building is currently for sale at $2.5 million.

The previous record for a parking space was set in 2007, when a buyer paid $250,000 for a spot at 31-33 Commonwealth Ave, according to Debra Taylor Blair of Boston’s Listing Information Network.

Hey at least the anonymous buyer used his own money for it and not my tax dollars....

Oh just wait, we can't have individuals running around all willy nilly, spending 300 thousand dollars on a 16 by 6 foot chunk of concrete. Time to redistribute the wealth, so we can ALL have a nice parking spot!

What a friggin' rich idiot!

For that princely sum of 300K........they get the right to find someone illegally parked in their spot constantly!
Then they get to call a tow truck,
then they get to wait for an hour for the tow truck to show up,
then they get ticketed for double parking while they are waiting for the tow service,
then they get to wait for another 20 minutes for the illegally parked car to be hooked and towed,
THEN they get to park in their awesome 300,000 dollar spot!

Sounds like a great idea!

It is amazing how much people pay to live in that area... and apparently park!!!

It would really suck if someone kept parking stolen cars there.

If he can afford 300 large for a parking spot, I don't really think hes worried about a parking ticket or two.

True,
But it does detract from the overall 'convenience' that they payed so highly for.

Shouldn't be hard to find the parking spot, just look for the ***** shaped vehicle with a personalized plate that says IMA DICK.

We could always hold a MM meet where we take turns parking in his spot so he never gets in it and we rotate so we don't get tickets.

Envy is an ugly thing, Guy's.....

Hating people with money is causing a lot of things to happen lately.

I wish I had $300k to spend on a parking spot.

Parking spots go for $75,000 here in Chicago in parking garages. That was as of ten years ago.

This isn't news to me, but 300 large is.

If you've ever been there, you would understand. It was reported the buyer is also selling a 2.5 million dollar condo.
