View Full Version : Is this van any good?

My bass player told me I could buy his 1993 3500 series GMC van for $900. It has 110,000 miles and had parts replaced at 80,000 miles. Things like the fuel pump, battery... exc. The only problem is the gas mileage seems a bit low. Like maybe around 12mpg on the highway. It runs and drives fine. Doesn't smoke knock or leak. I drove and rode in it many times.

Could it simply be the plugs? I just don't know. It has a 350 engine.

I know it's a shot in the dark, but if anyone could think of something let me know.

12 mpg for a van sounds about right. You have to remember they are basically a big box going down the road. They have the worst aerodynamics. They are also heavy vehicles.

Get a leak down compression check. That should give you a good idea of what shape the engine is in.

Heck,if it's a chevy 350,doesn't smoke,knock,leak oil like the Exxon Valdez and ain't rusted to death $900 doesn't sound too bad.You want me to help you check it out Dom?

I found out the mpg is actually right where it should be for a van like that. A few sources told me. I know it's a good one buddy. I have used it a few times. I'll be outta town later. Thanks for the offer and good luck with everything tomorrow.

a 3500 van with a 350 of course its going to bad mpg. and the good part is it should have a 4 bolt main block
