View Full Version : Looking at a used 300B, NEED ADVICE

I have come across a used black/black 300B with a little under 14K miles and from the pictures it looks like it is in great shape. The owner seems to have maintained it religiously, and it has over 2 years of factory warranty left.

The gentlemen selling it wants $22,000 and I am parked at around $21,000. Assuming the car is actually in the condition described to me over the phone, is $22,000 a good price???

I want a 300B and this is one of the rare times I have seen one for sale at a reasonable price so I am tempted. I really do not need the car right away, but the desire to buy a Marauder is stronger now that winter is approaching and my vette will soon be in storage.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

just a question. what if that marauder had alot of the parts we talk about here on this board, computer chip, different gears, etc... I would think that that is a fanatic owner who probably takes good care of his car, loves it to death, but as a buyer, would you think it would be one you would not buy? assume they were both $22,000??

My opinion...might be a little high with 14k clicks...but only by $500-$1,000 or so...

I'm not sure 22K for an 03 300B is a deal. Not when you can get an 04 for a few thousand more with no miles.

BTW.... I'm not sure you'd like the Marauder for a winter car. Especially in Chicago! These beasts are not known for their traction in a foot of lake-effect snow!

just my 1 cent,.... kinda broke right now! can't afford 2!

$21k, not a penny more with that kind of mileage on it.

Kelley Blue Book says $23,270 if it's in excellent condition and $21,855 if it's in good condition. This is based on 14,000 miles and does not include either of the options.

Thanks for the prompt responses guys. I am pretty much set on getting a Marauder, although I know it is not the perfect winter vehicle. I just can't get used to any car that does not have RWD and a V-8. I have gotten through past winters in a Mark VIII just fine.

I will stick to $21K, and if he does not give in I guess I will just keep looking. The best price I have been able to get on a 2004 is a little over $29K (x-plan). If I could get a 2004 for $27K or less that would be the way to go. If anyone has any leads in this regard, let me know.

To answer your question, I would not shy away from a modded car provided that the mods did not effect year round drivability or the factory warranty. A lot depends on the person selling the car.

I will definetly try to meet up with you guys once I get my car.

On Kelly Blue Book, use what the dealer's use, Fair value. That's the realistic market number that matters.

Good/Excellent values are just fluff, no one actually uses them. They represent the perfect world scenario, which in the car business, just doesn't exist.

ADE1900 It sounds like your buying it from a private party? To me that would be a plus. You can pretty much size the deal by the way the seller lives and how he takes care of his surroundings. And he may be just trading dollars on his Marauder.Whats his next purchase going to be?

chapel1-

Yes, this car is for sale by owner. In talking to him, he seems like someone who took very good care of the car. He does not have another purchase lined up, he lost his job and is looking to get rid of the car payment.

Another advantage to this transaction is that the taxes would be about $500 cheaper than buying it from a dealership.

ADE,
I purchased my 300A 2003 Marauder over the internet from Capital Lincoln Mercury in Matteson, Ill, south side Chicago.

It was delivered to me personally here in Anderson, SC.
My sales rep was Mr. Roberto Fabioneri, a true Marauder enthusiast.

He specializes in selling Marauders nation wide. The best deal and car buying experience I ever had. I got mine for $26,100 in August with 56 miles on it.

He usually has a couple on the lot or can get them quickly, send you pix, etc.

phone: 708-720-9100, fax 708-720-9105, email www.carguru@ameritech.net; Capital Lincoln Mercury <carguru@ameritech.net>

Hope this helps and is OK with Logan. Good Luck!

If he lost his job and wants to be rid of the car payment, show up with $$ in your hand ready to close. He might just take it. Maybe you can assume his loan

For 21.5-22K buy the car. (if it has been
babied & spotless) IMHO at 14K it is just
starting to get broken in.
Gotta Love it!

Thanks for the reference. I talked to Roberto and he is a very nice guy. Unfortunetly, the heavy dealer incentives have expired and the best he can do on a new one is around $28K-$29K. In any case, if I decide to buy a new one I might give him a call.

I am still waiting to hear back from the guy with the used one. If he bites for $21K, I might have a Marauder next week.

ADE, thanks for checking with Roberto.

I can simpathize! I know that once you see what Marauders mean to their "significant others" you simply can't stand it until you have your own! They are simply incomparible . . . to us!

ADE1900: Quite a question you put forth.

Not a easy answer for sure.

Every one has offered their help.

I tend to go with the used one and work on the price.

One thing to thing about: buy a left over '03 and get 0%!!

This would be worth a lot of $$ to any one?

Something to think about?

Good luck!

Jim - You make a very good point. With the rebates and 0% intrest on a new Marauder the $22,000 (used MM) doesn't look too good. Unless you have the cash ( 22K ) you can't get near 0% on a used car. Plus no leather jacket. IMHO.

Thanks again for the responses guys.

I thought about the 0% deals briefly, but they do not seem to make much sense in light of the fact that I could probably get a rate of less than 4% anyway. I do not plan to borrow much and I typically pay off cars rather quickly.

Well guys, he finally caved in. The car is mine for $21K :D

If there are no surprises when I go pick it up next Tuesday, I will be a Marauder owner next week.
