I recently bought their hood for my 03' Marauder. Does anyone know which gas strut to go with?

The guys at Class Glass told me not to go with the original gas struts as they are too strong and will buckle the back of the hood.

Thanks

Go with a strut that is less powerful!

So they sold you the hood with no recommendations for a strut?

What was the shipping costs for the hood?

Thanks guys....to answer a couple of questions the gentleman I talked to at Class Glass did not remember the exact gas struts to use so I want to be sure which one's I need. They were the one's to warn me about possible damage to the hood by using standard Marauder gas struts which I do really appreciate.

The shipping costs were not cheap (roughly $125-to Chicago) but I saved $90 by having it delivered to a business instead of residential. I am going to work on installing my hood light onto this hood. I am sure it can be done.

Thanks Haggis -look forward to the part numbers for these struts.

^^^ Yeah that's the number, Brand is Strong Arm. You can use hood pins if you want but I haven't installed any nor plan to, I've had the car up to 135+ and hood was solid. The new hood shocks are just enough to keep the hood up without torquing it.

that looks sick.;)

have any of you guys seen a mach 1 with an inch intake spacer?

i meet a guy at the track with one, he said his buddy in jacksonville can make them, he also said it gave him an extra 20rwhp when he dyno tuned the car.

i wanted one but found out the hood will not clear, but now this gives me hopes:banana:

That is a nice looking hood!

Wow, someone finally makes a fiberglass hood for our cars and it is non-functional. :bigcry:

Juno -this hood has mesh screens in the back that are open to the engine bay. Granted it does not have a cowl induction set-up like a Chevelle but I still believe their is a benefit in letting the heat escape the engine bay and allowing outside air in.

I guess it depends on your belief/definition of functional. I personally believe it is a functional hood. Plus it weighs less then our current hood which should be good at the strip!

It will force air in as that is a high pressure area for our cars, but it will also screw up the designed air flow under the hood. If you look closely at our cars, Ford spent a lot of time on the air flow. The tight radiator and side shields, the fan shroud, that annoying ugly dam under the motor, etc.

It may let some heat out when idling, but how often do you do that? And is it worth the disruption when you are moving?

Let's see, $450 for the hood + shipping + paint + struts??.
Yes it looks good, but it is not much more functional then taping a fake one there in reality.
Blocking it off and mounting some gages there may be cool.

JMHO BTW. It may be worth it to some. If I were to spend about $900 plus on a hood I would like to see one with some real functionality. Like something that lets heat out just above and at the back of the headers.

As far as weight goes, 100 lbs is .1 second. How much less does it weigh? 10 lbs? So 1/100 of a second?
10 hp is .1 second, so it effectively adds about 1 hp? Even if it is 20 lbs less it is 2/100 or 2 hp.

Again, don't get me wrong, it looks cool. Just not functional enough for my money.
And it is available. I can't even find a used GM/CV hood within a 100 miles of me to experiment with.

Buy a new one, they are not inexpensive, but also not as bad as I thought....... or find an aftermarket body parts supplier and get a re-pop.
A man with your vast contacts must know a body guy who could hook you up?

Yes it does allow the heat to escape a whole lot easier, I can see the heat wave emission come right out of it when sitting while stopped. Also while sitting in the drivers seat at the right angle you can see through the mesh vents and right through to the front of the car. It does allow more air to flow in and out of the engine bay, while driving in the rain if you watch the water beads they will creep towards the mesh and go right in so it is pulling some air flow in while driving.

At least some company makes a custom product that doesn't cost an arm & a leg, has some function and gives the car a whole different look. As ImpalaSlayer keeps telling me I need a deck lid spoiler to finish off the look which I agree.

Well for the cost of the hood, shipping, painting and struts you could buy a Naz intake and be waiting for 2 months or more for it to come in! At least Class Glass turned my hood around in less then 2 weeks and even called me when it was shipping out! Reminded me of the vendors we used to deal with from the old days of MM.Net.

When it comes in I will see if the body shop has a scale and try to scale the hoods to see if their is a big difference in weight. Probably not as I have been told this hood is pretty rigid at high speeds so your 10 lb. analogy is probably right on.

I believe anytime you can let heat out of the engine compartment (especially a SC car) that is a good thing. Now is it worth it from a performance standpoint......probably not..... but it sure looks COOL!

A quick update on my hood adventure.......just got a call from the bodyshop that I had the hood delivered to and they reported that the person deliverying the hood told them to please check it as they had dropped it. Hood corner was broken so my bodyshop guy sent it back. I called Class Glass and reported it to them as the transport company had not advised them yet. This was yesterday and I am surprised I have not heard anything back from them. I guess they are waiting for the hood to come back to look at it.

Not much more can happen to me/car this year. I have been through the ringer with trying to mod this car and this is just par for the course. I wonder if people realize I started to get the Trilogy and other mods done/put on for the Kentucky Meet in March. It is now July and I still dont have a car to drive. No Trilogy yet, no tune and now no hood!

I am going to beat this car into submission if it is the last frickin' thing I do! My Charlene can be a ---ch but I am not going to surrender!
