Hi Folks,
I have collected quite a few cell phones and a Palm lllc over the years.

Is there anyone who could recycle these...or should I just throw them out?

(Most of the batteries won't take/hold a charge because they have been laying around for some time.)

Charities usually collect old cell phones. Maybe you can just take them back to a cell phone store and they will do something positive with them. I remember at one time the police were collecting old cell phones to give to the needy, maybe a LEO will confirm this.

Our local department takes them has them refurbished and gives them to women that are in the battered womens shelter.

They do cell phones for soldiers.

I'm not really sure of the site though.

Most Lowes and Home Depot stores with accept the batteries for recycling -- that have a bin at the front of the stores near returns.

Most counties in MD have an electronics recycling program. I know that Montg. Co has one and I think AA and Howard have them as well.

Donate them to a non-profit so you can claim a tax deduction.

All of those old cell phones are all good for making 911 calls.

They don't even need to be activated or have a SIM card in them. As long as they turn on and have signal and be able to dial, they can connect to 911.

Remember any info you had on any of them is still technically recoverable, ie bank account info, combinations ect...

Can't you just wire them to car bombs like everyone else? Sheesh...

If no lucky with charitable donations then try a large consumer electronics store like Best Buy or Circuit City. At least here in NY I've seen a few boxes in the vestibules for collecting cell phones for recycling. Also check out a site called gcycle.org, I think I've seen it on tv for electronic recycling.

Also you might want to check around for cell phone enthusiasts who might pay handsomely for one or two.

Yep...I've been considering that, and I might just opt for the crusher.

So you'd rather a meth freak go without a free untraceable phone? For shame, sir. For shame.

You could, but Joe said the batteries will not hold a charge therefore no signal.

I was wondering if cell phones could be launched by a trap machine. I bet you could sell opportunities to folks who'd want to blast the bejesus outta one of 'em. :D

I'm liking the idea!
My buddy has a big farm in Loudoun County, Va.
We use one of his fields for an occasional trap shooting session.
I had 'issues' with most of these cell phones...so....I personally wouldn't mind blasting them to pieces!

LIGHTNIN1 and me were typing the same thought at the same time, and posted within 1/2 hr of each other. Great minds...and all that. :D

Let me know when you're going to the farm, Joe. I'll bring the trap guns and bullets, although I must admit, Pops' idea seems one of the better places for them.

Oh, there's the one my son, John, snapped outta the hands of his X VP wife's hands and threw in the lake on their 2nd trip to Disney World. (the first and last)

Factory reset will wipe them completely.
