A new Challenger R/T weighs 4041. My new Grand Marquis weighs 4038.
That is kinda interesting to me.

Maybe the Challenger has HEMIroids.

Just thought it was strange; the GM is perceived as a heavy 4 door sedan and the Challenger as a sporty 2 door and yet the GM weighs less. You would never guess it by looking at them side by side.

I believe the Challenger is built on the Charger platform,if you get alongside one with your Panther you'll see it's not a small car.

yeah if you've read any of the articles in car and driver or other similar magazines where they compare the 'stang/camaro/challenger, they all say what a boat the challenger is. they say its great for straight line driving just like the old days but can't handle worth ***** compared to the mustang and camaro.

They couldn't be "turned" in the old days either!
Leave it to Chrysler to get the chance for a redesign and NOT get it right the second time!

+1, I was surpised at what they weigh. Still, I'd love an orange one :D, but the wife goes off on me at the mere mention of selling the DTR.

I rode in Donnie's new SRT8 Challenger a very impressive car with unreal braking power. But, it still is only a low 13 sec car even with the 6.1 Hemi. Of course with a new SC on it - it would be very strong. I bet Donnie will have a SC on his for SSHS9.

I wasnt trying to slam the Challenger, I like em, I was just thinking it was odd our great big cars weigh less.

I understand that times are tough for the auto industry right now, and that a ground-up design of a brand new platform for the Challenger was out, but I don't think the LX/LY platform (300, Charger) was the right call. Looking at the side profile you can really see the size of the thing. I know lots of people love 'em, but I'm just not impressed. The Camaro SS weighs in at 3850 lbs, no light weight to be sure, and the Mustang GT is seriously down on horsepower, but both cars are faster, brake shorter, and it put up higher lateral G numbers in cornering (source: MotorTrend magazine).

2010 Camaro
0-60 mph - 4.7 seconds
1/4 Mile - 13.0@111 mph
Lateral Acceleration -0.90 g
Figure-8 course - 25.8@0.80 g
Braking - 60-0 mph -105 feet

2010 Mustang
0-60 mph - 4.9 seconds
1/4 Mile -13.5@104.2 mph
Lateral Acceleration - 0.95 g
Figure-8 course -25.5 g @0.70 g
Braking - 60-0 mph - 108 feet

2009 Challenger
0-60 mph - 5.1 seconds
1/4 Mile - 13.6@104.9 mph
Lateral Acceleration - 0.82 g
Figure-8 course - 27.5 @ 0.63 g
Braking - 60-0 mph - 135 feet

Oh yes you would, if you've ever seen a MM parked next to a challenger you'd say "Holy crap I've been driving a sub compact this whole time!"

I did see a picture somewhere when the challenger came out last year, of a Mustang, parked next to a challenger, and on the opposite end was a black marauder... They both looked super small next to the challenger
