Has anyone taken apart their alternators? I am trying to get the case off and am having trouble. I took off the pulley, back cover, and voltage regulator, I can get the case to split a little over an 1/8th of an inch and then no further. Anyone know if I am missing something?

I have pulled the 'guts' out of my alternator to get the casing powdercoated.
I'm trying to remember if I had a similar problem. I did mine 4+ years ago, so I apologize for my memory lapses.
I think that you have to go in from the back through a small round hole and depress an internal clip with a stiff wire/metal probe to release the 'guts' from the casing....I think.
Again, sorry for the fuzzy memory.
Also; Make sure that you, or your powdercoater DO NOT coat ANY of the smooth surfaces inside the casing!
The 'gut's are almost a press fit, so you are screwed if any powdercoating builds up on the internal machined surfaces of the casing.
Having mine powdercoated this week. I ended up heating the case up slightly and it pulled right out.
