Okay, Just to make sure im not missing the concept. When all said and done, the J-mod is only getting rid of the valve body's accumulator springs, and drilling out specific holes in the separator plate. This sounds hella...hella easy and i want to make sure im not missing the step that says, " chew on the valve body until you make teeth marks, or teeth".

you must also top off your blinker fluid ;)

Yes it is that simple, just have the two required gaskets, 9 qts of oil, and two drill bits ready. Taking my sweet time on my back, it was a two hour job and welllllllll worth it! Good luck.

Best word is crisp. Won't break your neck, but nice and firm.

Just make sure that after you do the J-mod (and you really should do the J-mod) if you ever tune/flash the program you do not increase the line pressure on the transmission programing. It would be redundant to the J-mod and make the shifts too hard.

K-man is correct - you must check your line pressures after the J-mod. My line pressure was maxed out at 125#. It should have been about 99#. The 1-2 shift was hitting a little too firm. I had Dennis Reinhart lower the 1-2 shift schedule at cruise speed to stock and WOT to max pressure. It works fine.

The separator plate mod improves fluid flow resulting in longer trans life. The removal of the springs will increase shift firmness. Some people don't like how hard the 1-2 shift is it will bark on wot, some will leave the 1-2 spring in but I would highly recommend modding the separator plate and removing the 2-3 spring. read this http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=54191 (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=54191)

is there any way to find out what your line pressure is without having a PCM flash done? Is there a tool or something that i can just hook up to my line?

After you have done the j mod, you need a hand held tuner X-Cal 3 for example, with the shift line pressure adjustment enabled, then you can fine tune it to your personal preference.

On the left side of the trans at the front there is a 11mm plug in the trans. You will need a trans pressure gauge

i have an XCal 2. Will that also tell me, or do i need the 3?

xcal 2 is fine, as long as the shift pressure was left adjustable from whoever tuned it. I was lucky because my trilogy chip has the line pressure set very low. No head banging, except the for the music.
