This is a pic of the Holden Monaro at a car show quite recently. This shows that the true-dual system on the 2dr V-Body can be made to exit on either side.

I hear what you're saying. I forgot to say PONTIAC are you listening?! Anyway, Bob Lutz should be well aware of that Holden dual tip setup. If I know, he knows. Perhaps he'll be a wise corporate man and introduce it on the 2005 GTO with the RAM AIR hood. This will make the model set itself apart I would think. It sure wouldn;'t take very long for the aftermarket (SLP?) to offer a setup like the OEM Holden set up.

Geo - The 2004 GTO that I saw had dual exhausts exiting from the same side. I'am sure that will be modified if not for 2004 then 2005.

I saw a GTO this summer at the Dream Cruise. It had right hand drive and a single exhaust. It did sound good though. It had manufactored plates on it.

I think the body style is an incredible disappointment - sounds like a GTO...looks like an Oldsmobile.

I've seen many Oldsmobiles that have generated more excitement for me, if you want my opinion.

There is NOTHING in Pontiac's lineup now that remotely interests me. I was kind of interested in the older Bonnevilles but they successively uglified the front end to the point where I can't stand looking at them anymore. The new Grand Prix, as exciting as it is supposed to be to drive, is downright scary... I had a close look at one on the road yesterday: tall, boxy, this is supposed to be "wide track"?

Just as well they killed the Firebird... I'd have hated to see what it would have looked like, had there been a 5th generation.

TAF and Bigslim, thank you! We'd better get back to discussing the GTO now.

When I was a kid I loved muscle cars. One of those cars was the GTO. Today's GTO can't hold a candle to the good looks and rumble I remember in the 65 and 66 GTOs. I recently drove a friend's tri-power 4-speed 65 and I was grinning ear to ear.

I guarantee that if you parked the 2004 and the 65 side by side, no one would pay any attention to the 2004. What does that say about the looks?

Bob

As I use to say to my Gamming group.

"I may be out numbered and out gunned, But I will never be Out Classed."

Back on topic - I think I heard somewhere that GM had to relocate the gas tank to meet government crash standards, and as a result, no place for the right side tailpipe, meaning dual exhaust on the left side. The car I saw yesterday at the State Fair here, had the fuel door high up on the quarter panel, so it would seem this scenario might make sense.

I've had this discussion with a few people about the new GTO and the upcoming retro Mustang. If GM and Ford were smart, they would make the interiors of those cars look like 2005 but the exteriors would be the absolutely exact replica of the GTO and Mustang from the late 60s.

I can't speak for everyone, but I for one wouldn't give a rat's hind end that it was blatant copying. I would be falling all over myself to buy one, maybe one of each. I think hundreds of thousands of other people would too.

Do you guys think I'm wrong? Am I off base here?

I don't think they could pull it off and meet all federal reqirements.
